Projects Chevy 292 camshafts

Hi I'm new here, and I need some help. I am building a Chevy 292 for an 1977 GMC. My question is will this comp cam 61-233-4 work in a 292? It says it's for 194ci - 250ci.

 

the cams are different between the smaller six and the 292. No, it won't work.

I got all my inards for my 292 from him. Great guy!

 

The fuel pump lobe is in different location. You can cut the lobe down and then you can run the cam in a 292. Then you will have to use a ele. fuel pump. It can be run. I have run one before.

 

I knew that the 250 fuel pump lobe was in a different location, but did not know it needed to be cut down to work in the 292.

Is it totally necessary?

 

You mean for a 1965 GMC

 

Comp cams doesn't show anything for a 292 in their online catalog.
I've bought quite a bit from 12 Bolt tom for my 292 and they are good to deal with.

I ran a stock 292 cam in a 250 back in the day because it was bigger than the 250 cam. Like mentioned above it needed an electric fuel pump. Cutting down the fuel pump eccentric wasn't necessary.

Clifford (6=8) Auto Parts has a 292 cam kit that works well; at least on a circle track.

 

I don't remember why we cut the cam lobe off. I don't think it was necessary. I ran both the 270 and the 280 hyd. cam. For street use, the 270 hyd. RV cam was recommended.

 

The engine is out of a 1967 grain truck, but I am building it and putting it in my 1977 GMC Sierra. It's a mind boggling build

 

Since the cut off for the HAMB is 1965, I'm sure you meant 1957 GMC
