Gary, I think you started going to Woodburn a couple years before I did and the front engine cars were starting to be replaced with the rear engine cars, so I never saw the Northwind run.
I've known some of the history of the Northwind but had never read anything in depth.
I read parts of this article by Jim Rockstad before but found it again when trying to find out where the Kreiger name fit in the team, the trailer says "Sponsored by Howard Kreiger", but I don't recall hearing this name before, do you have any knowledge on this?
I highly recommend anyone interested in the history of FED racing to read this article, it also covers the restoration of the Northwind.

  8. I first went in 1964, then the first REAL race was summer of 65 to see the Hawaiian.
Lots of traveling diggers plus great NW cars. Lots of great Div 7 cars went North in summer.
Marty Strode is the guy to ask, he was friends with Albrich for many years. Marty is the real deal and knows his stuff!
Funny that McCullough says very little about his days pre FC, I never understood that.
I do know it was common for a guy to be the money man, think Greer, Black & Prudhomme. Greer was a "rich guy" that footed the bills.
LOTS of great racing in 65, 66-67 before everyone went to slipper clutches!
AND HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIEND!
