My '49 four door. Bought it the day before I turned 16. Completely stock right now, but I have a lowering kit, and new rockers that will be going on this summer. I'd like to do a V8 swap, and add disk brakes too.

  14. My '49 coupe that went to Bonneville this year. Official speed was 107 and some change. I was at around 115 when I melted a hole in cylinder #5 of IMG_1399.jpeg IMG_0148.JPG IMG_1462.jpeg the aluminum Cyclone head. It'll be back next year.

What do these cars ride like at over 100mph?

  18. Handled great. Went straight with no swaying. Would not dare tried it but probably could have steered with one hand. Cornered flat at the turnout road. I suspect the almost perfect salt had a lot to do with it.

1991-1992 Ranger rear ends are the same width as the '51 stock unit, the spring perches have to be changed (I used the ones off the original rear end) but otherwise it is a perfect fit. I'm even going to be able to use emergency brake cables.

Got alittle bit work done on mine this past summer.. disk brake kit on front, 11 inch drums in the back, 9 inch rear, front and rear sway bars, 3 inch lowering springs in rear and a 1 inch block, Aerostar coils in front, rebuilt trans, and new driveshaft. Swapped over to a 4 bbl intake and carb.. more stuff to do but it’s going ..

  24. I see you were able to match the paint in the areas you've got primer in the first picture, what did you use? I've got a similar issue with mine, there's areas I'll need to repair but want to be able to put some paint in those places (instead of just primer) until I can do the whole car.

Sorry the first picture is actually the second . I’m doing away with the taillight trim and most likely the side trim. Hood getting all the mods, trunk smooth out,as well as the doors. My plan is to build a nice little mild custom as if it was done in the 60s

Nice car, and you're on the right track with your mods. I suggest replacing the '51 side trim with '49-50; it's better proportioned to the car overall:

Thanks! I’m actually going back and forth between that or with the 55 Chevy trim like the Lee Pratt coupe..
