Folks Of Interest How do Ca junkyard/scrap yard operate?

Hello.
I have a chance to buy a whole van to use as parts for my project(1955 vanette) but only need some of them.. Grill, bumper, glass minor stuff... The rest needs i dont need.
Can i just call a scrap yard to haul it away and get paid?
Theres no title, the seller wants to get paid and have me worry about junking the rest..
He'll let me cut it up in pieces but i dont want to haul it to the scrap yard since i dont want to tow a trailer from las vegas to pomona to get stuff that would fit in the back of the truck.

Basically i want to get some of my money back.
He wants 500 for the thing and i feel its only worth 200 in the parts i seek.

How much time and money will you spend searching for hard to find stuff? Maybe the extra 300 isn't that much after all? Just say'n.

 

Well yes... Money can come and go.. Parts.. Not so much...
Most important point of my post is that i dont want to load and haul stuff away to the scrappers and dont want to leave guy with the rest to be deal with since thats the deal..
If i make some of my money... Great!

Has to have title to get rid of whole. Meaning if it resembles a vehicle. Other words you will have to cut it up and haul in seperate loads......

Buy it haul it back to Vegas. Strip what you want or need and sell the rest to welderup for their next project.... or part it out those vans are pretty popular....

 

Cant... Truck aint big enough, no trailer, no place to part out.
It needs to be a 1 day thrash to get what i need haul/sell the rest on the spot or have it hauled away...

I dont have an extra 700(gas,food)to play right now so I'm trying to be smart about this.

 

Found a recycling yard 5 min away...
Will give them a call tomorrow.

 

As usual somebody has blinders on and can't grasp that other parts might have value to someone else. Once gone, they're gone. Absolutely no idea why you wouldn't take every potentially useable piece off it and only junk a frame and maybe partial body shell.

 

Well id look at it this way then. Grill is worth 250.00 fits the early f1s ive sold the same or simaler for that. You need the hood. Where else will you find one? Thats at least worth 150.00. The misc/glass has got to be at least a 100.00. There is the 500.00 value. Pull what you need and load your truck. Pull it down the street and the chain or strap breaks whoops...... The city will have it towed as a abandoned vehicle and problem solved.... and you get what you need.

 

California law requires them to have the title to scrap it. Wrecking yard, recycle yard dont matter.

 

Haha..i would NOT wana do that to the city of pomona..cant live with that in my head..
I dont wana be a burden for all the taxpayers..
The grill is not as wide as the f100s as ive been told on FTE numerous times but it is valuable..
The van body is thicker than it seems...
But will think about it for a day or two.

Rent a uhaul pickup, and a trailer from local equipment yard. Haul it home and take your time parting/ cutting up. Freeway all the way. Easy trip.

 

take what you want an call a scrapper to take the hulk...

 

Post what your doing on sites specific to the vehicle and sites like this and have everyone who wants parts off it show up and dismantle it.

If I was the seller, I'd make you take the whole thing, I certainly wouldn't want you chopping it up into little pieces in my yard. That could take days if you have to cut the frame up and deal with an engine. What if the wheels are froze, or you don't have the tools you need on hand when you get there? Are you expecting the seller to help you do this?

The parts van looks better than your project van. I think you should try to find a way to get the whole thing home, or forget about it and keep looking for just the parts you need.

If you really want to make the deal, you better have a place for the hull to go when you're done, and be prepared to pay a wrecker to pull it out and haul it to the scrapyard if necessary. I can see this turning into a nightmare.

 

So tell people what you are taking and maybe someone here in SoCal would like what might be left,,,
taking glass? Grill? Motor? Trans? Dash??? Doors?????

Just a thought, but is there a bonded title process in CA? The current owner can't get rid of it without a title either, without cutting it up.
