That is the third version. First it was the JH Rose #27 car driven by Don Davis 1962. Then sold to Walt Beletsky for the 1963 season #7, Don Branson one of the drivers. This is the 1964 livery as the Woodie. Bob Marshman the driver at the start of the season. The car was in a horrible crash at New Bremen, where Jim Maguire lost his arm.

Seeing the Jet roadster in the Pocono photos brings to mind a thought. Does anyone know where the cars from Don Smith's collection ended up after the auction ?

Jud Phillips between O'connor and Thomson. Al Herman on the far right.

Might be Wayne Doerstler in the DA shirt.

This was a Mercury or Ford V8 special owned by John "Jack" Kuhn junior of Trenton/NJ (or possibly Levittown/PA). The earliest record that I have of it is as a #86 in 1954 and '55, driven by Dick Mealy of Trenton. Bill Magill of Levittown drove it in '56, and Bill Singer of Trenton in '57 before Mealy took over again. Usually qualified well down the field, often outside the top twenty, but Mealy had it once in 13th at Langhorne '55 May 1. Best main event finish that I have is 11th, 1958 Mike Nazaruk Memorial at Reading, Mealy up. Probably a prewar build, wish I knew what it was originally!

Actually, it's the Labadie Bros. Special of Wilson Labadie, an AARC owner from Michigan, I think. An early SBC sprinter, also driven by Clare Lawicki. Ran occasionally with USAC, and once finished 12th in a USAC main (1962).

The headers are exiting at the wrong angle for any sort of hemi (Ardun or Mopar).

However screwy looking the headers are, there is no mistaking the distinctive spark plug location on the valve cover or the fins. Ardun are unique and different from any other hemi style engine.

The comment was in reply to mlight9's initial picture of the car questioning the possibility of the engine being a "hemi". In the next photo it is obvious that it is an Ardun (in that case but not in the first photo)
