I ran across some photos of the Chadly coupe that I'd not seen before: http://www.newportclassiccars.com/car-db/1930-Chadly-Coupe It seems to be similar proportionally to the Green Grenade, but I don't see any reference to body mods they might share despite some fairly detailed descriptions otherwise. Anyone know of any build photos for this coupe?
I worked with Chadly at Hutch. while he was building this car. I was in the toolroom and he was in maintenance dept. I didn't talk to him much then but I heard a lot about his car. In person it was a pretty cool car.
Thanks for the heads up Mark...great to see the old coupe again....it's been gone enough years that I really wish I had it back. I kept track of it over several new owners, but lost it after it went to the East coast...lots of great memories there.
Thanks a ton for the responses, Where else but the HAMB...awesome. Chadly, yours is one of my favorite examples of a heavily chopped coupe. In my opinion, you got it just right. I'm building a 30 of my own...albeit very slowly, and although I some different ideas, I'd like to get those proportions. Anyway, as I mentioned, yours and the Green Grenade are my high bar. My question: did you modify the body to get that stance (the much discussed anti-sectioning, sedan doors). Or, is it all in the (7.5""?) chop? I also be really interested in any info or tips on the reconstruction work required after such a heavy cut... Thanks again, -Chris
Chris, I'm happy to pass on what I can remember...I do have build photos stashed in my PC at home. You are welcome to shoot me a PM and I'll give you my phone # if you want. I can tell you the Green Grenade was my influence to build my coupe. He anti-sectioned his body 2" and ran sedan doors with an 8" chop...my car is all factory with a 7.5" chop...I took as much as I could out without loosing any door hinges. The body was trimmed a small amount to get it to sit on to the Pete and Jakes chassis...it didn't take much.
Chadly, if you can share a few of those build photos in this thread, that would be appreciated. I too am building a (far less chopped) 30, & yours nails it. I know it's been all over the internet, but some of the original build would be cool. Good to see this car pop up again & hear from the Original owner. . . . Edit: I see the OP link does have a lot of info (if it's accurate) it is a well documented car & well traveled.
Some images of the build...it was my very first American car build...honestly had no idea what I was doing. If it wasn't for tons of help from my fellow Hot Heads car club members and the old timers we hung out with, the coupe never would have materialized.
