I thought they only sold Mercury cars in Canada?

I had to laugh when I saw the picture of the Caddie with the debris on it, because, even though this car looked like it was parked when the debris fell on it, it reminded me of a time I was a witness to a similar type of situation. In 1961, I was driving on Broadway Ave in Vancouver one afternoon, and just as I got to a busy intersection, Nanaimo St and Broadway, a 57 Chevy travelling at warp speed, being driven by a little elderly lady, , went through the red light immediately in front of me, and crashed through a brick wall and display window of a large food store. Every part of the car penetrated the store up to the back wheels. The front of the building looked like a war zone, with glass and brick scattered everywhere.
It was a scary sight, and I was fortunate that she passed around 30 ft in front of me, or the car would have wiped out my car and possibly killed me.
What was amazing, was that nobody was seriously injured, either in the store, in the intersection, or on the busy sidewalk. There were, however, some pedestrians that had to use seven league boots to escape the collision and probably needed to have a diaper change.
The lady was shaken up, but not seriously injured. She stated that she wasn't sure what happened, but thinks as she approached the light to stop, she pushed on the gas instead of the brake.
I have had a lot of close calls in my life, but that one was particularly memorable for me. The incident is so indelibly etched in my mind, that even after all these years, I can even remember that it was a two tone gold Belair.
It is amazing that a similar looking incident can trigger the memory like that.

The other Ford built Canadian cars from that era were, the Meteor, and the Monarch.
For the Mercury, Lincoln, Meteor dealers, the Meteor was a Ford with different trim. They also sold the Mercury trucks.
The Monarch was the Mercury equivalent for the Ford dealers. That gave Ford the opportunity to have two dealerships in our small town of 10,000.
