Thought this may be of interest, seen it in the Rubber Industry news. Usually when companies get acquired by Capital groups, the focus goes strictly to profits and customer service & quality drops. Hope that's not the case.

  2. I thought the quality was already on the way down. Last set of tires I bought had messed up whitewalls. We will see.

They're dead and just don't realize it. This can't end well. Better stock up on tires, even with all the issues here, now and keep them out of heat and light. Sad, really.

I too feel their quality could have been better over the years.

    BLAH BLAH BLAH
The suits have spoken, will they fix Cokers' tire problems, I doubt it.
Maybe The Hoffman Group is next!

Sorry to see that, investment company or going public, either way prices go up, quality and service go down.

Paragraph #3, it's more than just Coker. Thought I was a year, or so, away from buying tires. Now it might be a good idea to buy and store like 5window suggests. My basement stays dark and never over 70 during the hot summer.

Have also been looking at the Diamond Back Auburn Deluxe bias looking radials. They appear to be expanding that line of tires.

Looks like ownership wants to retire and cash out. I believe the sentiment is correct that profit expectations will take precedence over quality. That also means that low production units could be dropped.

This sounds like normal business / refinancing / acquisition stuff to me. I'd bet they keep right on making tires, and much more. Gary

Happens all the time. If you want examples of this sort of thing, look at Harley Davidson and AMF, as well as "Mr. Gasket" and the like.

  14. Yep, once the bean counters come in the original vision is lost and things usually go to hell. Coker's had enough issues with 'enthusiasts' running it....

  15. Since Corky retired in 2014, day to day management has been under the group.
The last four years' history didn't seem to improve things.

As most have noted, their days are now numbered. They will squeeze what they can out of them and then bankruptcy.

The beginning of the end. The quality will decrease and they'll be re-sold, then fade away.

How much more can the quality decrease?

I will choose to be optimistic...and I saw this Kawasaki fella months ago involved with this Company.

Perhaps it will be an improvement...this is a niche market and still the only Vintage Bias Manufacturer.

I still scratch my head over the negativity towards the tire that truly is the only Traditional Tire of the Hamb Era.

I gave up on Coker years ago - very happy with Diamond Back wide white walls & Red Lines. 5 sets & no problems at all.

It's not a negativity over the tire. It's a negativity over the group that now owns them.

    what about hot rod charlie's?

  30. Well considering there is zero actual information about the details of the deal and it is being called a partnership with the group that is already running the business seems like there are a lot of chicken littles in the thread making a bunch of assumptions based on zero facts. Even the title of this thread is based on nothing nowhere does it say the investment group is taking control.
