History Picked up these jack stands over the weekend...

Found these in an antique store in Thomas, WV. They were marked $8 a piece, but I got the pair for $12. Anyhow, I planned to use them for my current build since the height is infinitely adjustable within their range. Thought they'd look cool sitting in the trunk of the complted car too.
They are clearly marked "Royaline 880 Stanton Calif." They are in peferct shape and looked old so I thought I'd consult TheGoogle to see how old they really were. While I can find original and repro "Royaline" signs and pump globes - nothing about jack stands. Can't even find anything about the Royaline company either. Found a Royaline company registration dating from 1896 in a NJ government page, but nothing specific
Anyone have any idea about these or the Royaline company?

 

I'm not sure those are jack stands for holding up a vehicle, they look more like stabilizer jacks for a camper to me. I would not get under a car sitting on those!

 

If those are aluminum, they are probably travel trailer support stands, not sure they are adequate to use as jack stands for automobile use.

 

I could very well be wrong..... but those are just a standard mobile home/house trailer jack.

I see exhaust stands in their future.

 

park your travel trailer then use them to stabalize the trailer while it sits on its tires. They were not designed to hold real weight.

Sure enough - looking up "camper stands" I'm seeing many similar types.
Point taken - they are probably not suitable for holding up a completed car - certainly with me underneath.

 

Leveling jacks. Used them when I boxed the '31 frame

 

Consider yourself lucky that you found out they weren't jack stands before you used them.

 

Yup, like the guys said. Stabilizing/levelling stands for a trailer, not a big trailer mind you maybe a pop up tent trailer or a 18' bumper pull trailer.
Definitely not automotive use jack stands that you would want to trust your life to.

 

They look like the ones that came with my 24' Travel Trailer. I sold the trailer so I can't check for sure.

 

Saw 4 of those being used under a new '27 build. Aluminum frame rails & cross members, aluminum front 'I' beam, 'glass competition grade body. Rear housing was empty, 8". Aluminum F85 Olds mill.
I cautioned him about the stands...he said at the rate the build was progressing, it should be years before any of them would be compromised...

 

Please don't use them. They're right down there with those cheap, sheet metal pieces-of-crap jack stands.

 

Trailer stands as has been stated
But to support a diff in re&re or front end will work fine

Put it in a post with a foot and use it as an exhaust stand or tranny stand under a hoist

Still plenty useful as an “ extra set of hands” even thought they won’t hold a ton of weight.

Looks real similar to the stabilizing jack stands that are in my old Shasta camper. HRP

 

Came home from my paper route back in 73, found my dad under a car that fell on him, no one else was home. He got lucky, a couple of broken ribs. It left an impression on me, I won't take chances when I get under a car.

 

I wouldn't trust those type of stabilizer jacks with the weight of a car.

I bought some heavy duty jack stands, I won't take any chances when working under a car. HRP

Actually, my brother bought a teardrop trailer some years back, nice wood frame (Ash, really nice wood frame) covered with thin sheet aluminum. Looked almost factory professional, but for the edges of where skin overlapped, I fixed some of it...
Cool thing was these 4 cast aluminum stands, with 'Stanton, Calif.' cast into the bases...
Four of them, stacked together and tied with a rope, in the 'kitchen' cupboard area in the rear.
But the funny thing was the frame, where the 'A' came forward to the hitch.
Stamped was the same name: 'Stanton, Calif.'
I B.S.ed him about the city..."Hey, this must be a Boyd Coddington product! He OWNS Stanton, CA.! Well, he and Roy Fjasted..."
He advertised it on the 'Bay, as a Boyd Teardrop! Sold it, too. True story.

 

There is a difference between Steel and Aluminum.

 

They may have only cost you $12 now, but wait until you have to get the $25K camper that you are now going to feel obligated to buy!

 

That what I did with mine, work great for exhaust work.

 

I should amend my original statement saying "don't get under a car while it's supported with those stands".
But yes, not a waste of money whatsoever.
As long as you understand their limitations its all good, it will surprise you the things you WILL use them for, I have some similar ones and use them every once in a while.

 

Aluminum has a lot more letters in it

 

And it is pronounced funny outside the U.S.
