I believe so, no plaque or anything. It was given to my brother when grandpa passed. It does need to be rebuilt though. Leaks fluid. Have to add fluid every now and again. Not sure if we can find the parts to rebuild it.

Yes, parts are available for those. I have a 1 1/2 ton version here, I think it weighs about that much.

The Garage Journal is a good place for advice on old floor jacks.

A40BE89A-4EBD-4644-AB3E-9A2191707F50.jpeg C8BDBF61-DF05-4608-84BB-BA5CCF818990.jpeg Got the rear window installed today with the trim I got off the donor car. It went good. Only issue was trying to read the directions that came with the new gasket. Once my brother and I figured it out. It was installed in about 15-20 minutes. On to the front windshield. The gasket was a little harder to get on. The gasket also only had slits on the top and bottom of the windshield for the trim, where as the rear had a slit all the way around. So the trim I got from the donor car may not work. I may get a different gasket, or look for the correct trim for the gasket I got. Anyways today was a good day. Thanks for looking.

AGGGHHH! The 'Parts Car' is a COUPE!!! Get ready to switch bodies!
'52-'54 Ford Coupes are the Cat's Ass!
I have a '54 Coupe. 406 Ford, BW 150 3 speed, Jeep tower. (real floor shift; close ratio, big gears) My parts car was a 4 door customline...

I liked the looks of the car also but it was kind of a hack job. Floor completely rusted out also. I salvaged as much as I could and sorry to say the rest went to the scrapyard.

Front windshield and trim installed. I got the correct gasket for the trim I had from Dennis Carpenter. Finished welding and installing steering u joints and shaft. Also put my windshield wipers on. I need to get some replacement wiper blades though. She is coming together nicely. 2772A842-2E5A-48E6-934E-2283B9F4C821.jpeg 6B94E29D-F3F5-42A2-B028-52374E242140.jpeg 8C2E14E6-2D13-41B1-99A1-8536D767AF88.jpeg

It's a drag car, only needs to go in a straight line. Right? Looks like it might handle some left-hand turns: bonus. Real shame about scrapping the '54 coupe.

There will be. If you look close enough you can see they are not hooked up yet. They are just laying there. I will run all new brake lines. Need to install a new brake booster and master cylinder. Thinking about getting this one off eBay.

Yes I didn’t want to, but I didn’t have room or time for a second more intensive project.

  14. You should have saved all the parts (doors, pillars, front half of quarters) to convert your body to a two door.

Normally 4 doors hold no interest to me. But this car reminds me of my buddy Lee's car back in high school in 1971. It was a 55 Ford plain jane 4 dr sedan, dark gray primer , chrome reverse wheels and he shaved the rear door handel's. But with a 390 , 4 speed and 410 gears that thing put so many so called Muscle cars to shame no one cared about the fact that it was his Grandmothers old car! lol I am not a big fan of the hood but otherwise this is a cool build. Yeah the hood. Lol. I have not finished the hood yet. I envisioned the hood to look like the very first pic in my thread except with a custom built stainless screen to let the air in and keep out the leaves, debris, etc. or this photo ^. I am thinking of weaving 1/8” + stainless tig welding wire and making a screen to cover the opening and somehow mount it so it is removable.

  17. Not to beat a dead horse but I can just see using the 53 coupe shell on the Merc frame with the Merc front sheetmetal. That would have blown everybody's mind! You're doing a nice job. Congrats

Looks like you're located on the wet side of the mountains. Better work fast, the rain is coming!
I like your build. Like the more-doors.

Rain for the next 9 months!!! I did keep the doors, side windows and some trim, etc. I feel like I’m turning into a hoarder. Lol. This is my first build. I don’t know if I’m ready for the cool shit yet.

I had to notch some of the inner sheet metal to be able to move it forward for clearance issues with the steering box. I moved the radiator forward 2-1/2”, also in hopes of not having to use an electrical cooling fan. I will have some 2-1/2” o.d. channel formed up out of aluminum to attach to the radiator and radiator support. Now more issues with the Merc hood. Lol. I’m going to have to modify it, or leave the dam thing off. Well at least the radiator will work.

Would it be easier to modify the pan at the bottom of the radiator, and let it sit a little lower?

Lowered it 2-1/2”. Now I have to modify the lower support brace. Have it tacked together for now. Need to add some metal tie it all back together and look nice. Hood clears the radiator by an inch now. That’s with moving it forward 2-1/2” and down 2-1/2”. Every time I touch something I double the amount of work it seems like. Lol. Do not need the channel formed up now. Moved the radiator support frame forward too. Now I can tie the inner sheet metal and support together with flat stock.

It looks like you cut the front crossmember in the pics. You might be able to fab a new one using some tubing in front of the radiator, and eliminate the stock one completely.

Got my brake booster this weekend. Looks like it is good quality. Tape measure for reference of size. Dam this thing is huge. Bigger than I was anticipating. I had to go to 3 local auto parts stores to find the right fittings to hook up the proportioning valve. Had it mocked up in the car. Everything lines up perfect. Needed to find all the fittings, so I’ll get this installed when I find some free time. 7499678C-2833-49E4-A3D1-482196240FC5.jpeg 712A88AB-2137-447B-9568-D9DDDFAAC9D6.jpeg

Found some time to work on my car. I got a few pieces of metal from work to do the rear radius wheel wells. It took me almost 6 hours to get both sides done. Labor of love I guess. They turned out pretty nice. I got the Lokar nostalgia 23” shifter for Christmas, so I will get to install that soon, along with my master cylinder and brake booster. I’ll need to order some new gaskets. I’ll probably order new shimlock for the keylock as one is on its last leg (starting to fall apart). I also need to get some new bolts for the door handles. Temporary for now.

I am going to have some parts burned out soon off our shop laser. Getting some brackets for some home made caltracs, and some front shock brackets. Pics when I get them.

Cut a hole in the tunnel to make installation easier. I still need to finish setting up the neutral safety switch and final steps, wiring, etc. It looks pretty good. The only thing I do not like is that it shifts from D to 2 without having to push the button. I have read a few threads that cover tightening up the jamb nut on the right side of the shifter so that should fix the problem and I will cover that in my final steps of the install. I will have to make a custom tunnel cover to close off the hole as the shifter bracket is to close to the top of the tunnel. Also installed the brake booster and master cylinder. The brake pedal hole and booster rod don’t quite line up, so I am thinking about putting a stand off between the firewall and brake booster bracket. Should only need to be shimmed out about a half inch.

Pictures of the shock brackets and Caltrac brackets. Still need to order some pipe and heims. Turned out real nice on the laser. 1AC5FFE1-FA98-4E16-8BB6-FA48FD77D235.jpeg
