  3. Looks to me like half of a 40 Mercury grille. Does it look like part of it is broken off?

  5. ..........I could go along with that, or one of those reproduction grille halves for a '39 DeLuxe/ '40 Standard Ford. Someone likely busted up one side and couldn't just buy one half, but had to buy the whole 2 pieces, thus the leftover one you found.

  7. What's the size?

The '39 Chevy's have a small grill opening on ether side of the grille shell. HRP

The barn find has 14 bars, the '39 Chev has 10, the '41 Merc has 20+/- and grille is spelt with a "e". By the way the spelling lesson is tongue in cheek. Hope the counting helps.

Too many bars to be from the Chevy.

If it's die cast, clean the edges really well on the back side and look for a casting number or logo. Also inspect both ends to see if it looks like anything is broken off.

Here's a lesson: The definition of spelt, is hulled wheat. I'm guessing you meant to type: grille is spelled with an "e"

I agree on the Merc suggestions. Looks like it's a broken part of a 40 or a 41. See if you can find the good end (unbroken) and give us a measurement.

Either way, if it's just a broken off piece it won't be worth much. It would be rare to find the guy with a broken other half.

Okay guys, in my defence, "spelt" is used in British / Canadian english as well as "spelled". So it is common to use spelt in Canada; but in the U.S. it is common/correct to use spelled, so blame it on my being Canadian. It bugged me that I was wrong so I looked it up (google) and that's what they said.
Either way has anyone figured out wether it's a grille and what make. If not use it as a grill.
P.S. What a way to mess up a thread. My apologies.

The guy who owns the "Dew Drop Inn Bar and Grill" down the road and paid for the neon sign is really gonna be pissed when he finds out about this;)
