The Truck and Industrial heads are what I prefer. The exhaust cross over already being plugged off in the casting is a major plus. Beats welding in plates for the exhaust crossover. Any 1954 and later 331 head is good just some want the water crossover of the 1955 331 Head (Triple Nickel/ #157 casting). Intake port wise all of the 54 and later 331 heads are the same. Next best is the 354 head and last is the 392 because of the turn it has to make into the cylinder. The 354 head can be made really efficient and what I recommend for many hot rod/street rod builds. The 331 heads are where the power is at!

I poured aluminum in several Chrysler heat riser passages to block them, Other engines also. Did them for $25 a head. Much more easy to do and way cleaner than welding a plate in.

  7. Thanx for the info Nick. That confirms what I see. And yes the late 331 heads are where it is at with their better angled, shorter intake ports but a I said, finding them is the challenge!!

It's taken me 3 years to find 3 sets of the 1955 & 1956 heads... AKA "555" & "619"'s.... The one year only big port 1954 331 heads are tough to, just like the 4 BBL intakes. But what are you going to do? Spend $5K on a set of Aluminum Hot Heads? Not that they aren't the cat's meow, they are truly bad ass! But I am no Warren Buffet!!!!

Howdy, I’m not wanting to turn this into a “hemi how to” thread because these pictures and info are amazing! But wanted to ask for some advice....

I have a 392 complete motor, number stamped NE57 single 4 barrel. What I’ve heard is the 331 head is better and I have access to a pair of 1955 15561571 heads. Should I jump and purchase them?

  12. Are you building a competition motor or something hot for the street? If you are't trying to squeeze every last ounce of power out of your 392 I wouldn't spend the extra money on different heads.

If you use those heads, you will need a adapter for the intake and also the water tube... Once that is done, you can port that 1955 head and make that 392 gain more flow.

Perhaps I shouldn't say water tube... But you know what I mean...

When you think of hemis, I'm pretty sure the v8-60 based Ardun or the Daimler sp250 don't come to mind. Wasn't there a Honda Hemi?

Well sadly my small block forum was taken down for O/T stuff that I didn’t have time to notice, so guys! Please keep this stuff On Topic If you aren’t, it’d mean a lot to me considering this is the biggest forum I’ve got.

No competition stuff just a good street hot rod...but...I’m leaning towards a blower. Is it worth it if using a blower..??..and Classiccarjack is saying an adapter is needed......is that all possible with a normal blower manifold + the adapter? Or am I spending $1000’s for 25 extra hp?
