Kinda like the experimental all Aluminum slant six? They made a few, ran them, then scrapped them?

Looks like it needs plenty of machining.... Hope he's got the blueprints....

  4. Not exactly experimental at 50,000 units produced in 1961 and 1962. More like a not so good design in terms of longevity as few exist today. Here is one Hot Rod built in 2003. Sorry for the O/T content. 155_0303_six_1_z.jpg

    You are correct sir!!!

I should have been more specific...

    Sorry..

I have seen those engines at the Spring Fling and other swap meets. Those blocks, although not the best, can be found. They had cast iron cylinders cast into them(or maybe pressed in). But like you said, they made quite a few. Those came with a cast iron head.

They made a few that were solid aluminum with Nikasil-coated cylinders that were not usable after the Engine ran it's course. They came with Aluminum Heads...

I have searched for one, mostly because I wanted the head... LOL.

But my slant six obsession is finally over... Now I am obsessing over Flathead Chryslers and Hemi's.

Was this one meant for the induction thread or is there a Hemi in there somewhere?

  23. Gotta question for the hemi experts out there. Why aren't truck heads the rage for dragster engines?
    • they are big port, big valve heads.
    • they don't have those bothersome water X-over ports
    • they don't have those bothersome heat X-over ports in the two inner exhaust ports
    • they have hardened exhaust valve seats
    • Seem almost ready to bolt on and go fast.
They of course have a couple minor problems that are easy fixed. They use hot water and tall narrow X-over ports on the intake manifold flange for preheating intake manifolds so those have to be brazed closed. No biggie. Second, they have odd sized valve guides for sodium filled exhaust valves but a valve guide change is good practice for any 60 year old engine rebuild.

With the increasing rarity of 392 & 354 passenger car heads, seems dirt cheap truck heads would be a great option. What am I missing?

Willys36, Here you go and talk about the Truck Heads and there no water ports and up jumps a car with just those. 27. Well, I am wicked smart but probably not psychic. I am not so sure those aren't x-over heads. I don't see the water ports between the front two intake runners and it isn't clear what that thermostat block is sitting on. Looks like a dark X-over pipe? 331s had the no-X-over heads but generally have tiny round exhaust ports and 2bbl manifolds. Some later model 331 heads have the big ports and no X-overs and 4bbl manifolds but they are almost as rare as the Hope Diamond and cost more than the Hope Diamond. Here is the 4bbl intake manifold from one of those engines with the tell-tale thermo housing. Would LOVE to snag one of these! Trucks all had 2bbl manifolds so they are not good donors for those but the heads look like awesome nostalgia Fueler items.

Yea I can see what you are talking about. That manifold is the Hot Heads tunnel ram with the 3x2 plate. That manifold does not come with the thermostat housing installed on it. it also bothered me some were it "APPEARS" the water is getting to the head, with out going to the center water port on the head. Maybe 2345. coupe will post some more pictures for us.
