"Four flathead Fords, Three small block Chevy's, two Chrysler Hemi's, and an Olds Rocket all by itself". (BTW, the SBC's are all 327's; two are small journals.)
Whatever I can get cheap in excellent condition. Last donor came from with a complete truck with a freshly rebuilt V6 $150 Previous was a vintage 350 4 bolt mains with only 50k miles. $400 complete. Owner had it running in a derelict truck when I arrived

I had a Model "A" frame, Dodge cowl and an old refrigerator about 10 years ago and was plotting to make an open car body and seeing your picture brings it all back, thanks there are two of us. Your Ford front fenders are a good touch. JW

In the past I had a 55 Bel-Air with a 348, another one with a mild 283, a 55 F-100 with a 350 4 bolt and a 56 F-100 with a 401 Buick. Right now I have a 54 Olds 88 with a 58 Pontiac tri-power 370 and a hydro on the back burner, a 55 Buick Special with the stock 264 and a 65 Skylark Gran Sport with a 455 Buick, bored, dual quads, bumped up cam and a Muncie 4 speed. If I live long enough to finish the projects I have I aim to have a no frills roadster with a nailhead .

Well due to fleet changes. 29 Ford coupe banger 56 dodge truck with sb mopar 318 I guess it depends on what I am doing with one on a choice of motors. But the dependability of these SB mopars are always good for me, a well build SBC isn't anything I wouldn't consider honestly. I even like the straight 6 flattys and ohv motors. Honestly been thinking of a speedster with a 6 flatty soon. Love nailheads also, flatty v8s, even the old airplane v8s, raced big block fords 20 years ago, the SB ford isn't bad either, I guess we all have motors we like to use. Hell I built my 31 with a 440 mopar in it, was fun but not fun trying to keep foot out of it all the time. Big motors are fun if you live in the country, if you live in the city, its about worthless unless you need to school the punks with mustangs accordingly. I just put whatever motor I feel the build should have, or what I think speaks the right version of English to me.
This thread has got me to thinking about the engines I have used in my cars in the past. The pretty much run the gambit too. I am installing a blown 392 Hemi in Model A this winter. My shoebox a 50 Coupe is also getting a Hemi 392, but it is a long term project. My 53 Ford tudor wagon is getting a 327 that I have been storing for 25 years and just looking for the right car for. In the past I have had a 390 caddy powered 1931 Ford coupe, a healthy 352 Ford was in my old 1955 Chevy simple to piss the brand specific crowd off. My old 40 Ford had a 390 Caddy as well, my 46 Ford tudor had Olds power. I really like um all though...
I have 31 Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/DeSoto flatheads lying around here... Trust me, you are not the lone ranger. 1938 Plymouth Truck: Keeping the PT57 201 six around. Thinking of using a 230 with a Edmunds 2 X 2 Bbls. And Fenton cast iron headers. 1937 Dodge ME 32 1.5 ton truck: Keeping the 228 around. Thinking of trying a 265 if one can be found. If it's not grunting enough torque, possibly throw in a Cummins. 1937 Dodge 1/2 Ton Truck(my wife's): Keeping the 228 here. Thinking of trying to find a 265, so I can use my George Ashe Jr. 3 X 1bbls intake manifold, and buying Langdon Stovebolt cast iron headers. 1937 Plymouth Panel: I am undecided, I found and picked up a PT50 Engine last month for it. But I am leaning more towards a V8 for it... A Mopar V8 of course. Or a slant six with a four barrel and my custom made headers that I did 15 years ago... Dan, can you please tell us more about your Engine? That Rocket Engine certainly does have something scientific going on in the front of it... Hmmmm. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
