  3. ^That's a great wall hanger! Hopefully you can get the primer off.

  4. I looked but I don’t think I do. I’m almost positive the guys at Austin Speed Shop had a hand in it. You might ask them.

What I like about 4 door hardtops is cruising with all the windows down. Second only to the experience of a convertable ride and the ride from the backseat is better than the front (if you're not hung up on always driving). And oh BTW, I've been told that naughty boys found hardtops the preferred rides for backroad beer bottle hurling. I wouldn't know from personal experience of course.

I'm normally a bit in the 2 door camp, but the 56-57 Sport Sedans are among the mot beautiful 4 door cars ever built , and for 57 I even think it's the best looking body style.
With the heavy front styling I think 57's look better as cruisers, and the 4 door ht roof reminds me a bit of the Brougham Eldorados, making it look slonger and sleeker than the 2 door. So it really depends if you want a hotrod or a custom.
    just my 2 cents

I tend to like stuff like that. My 2dr sedan still wears the Burbank community Chevrolet frame. It is in a little better shape than this one.

Now that I hadn’t thought of but I can see how it would be! I was talking to a buddy and he liked the 4dr hardtop better for taking the ladies to the dance because it was easier for them to get in and out of the back seat.

Congratulations on the new project. My parents bought one of these cars, new. They sold the car in 1964, but later regretted that decision. By 1968, they found and purchased another one - an original paint, black, 50k mile version. I have that car in my basement, today. There’s a guy near my home that recently finished the renovation of his black ‘57, which is absolutely beautiful. A fellow HAMB’r shared a photo of one of these cars with me several years ago. Now, I’m sharing these photos for your reference.

    Also, I have lots of surplus 4 door hardtop specific parts - including the rear glass. 6D6A467E-1E58-4DC9-85FA-3C02E68C0D93.jpeg ECB078C3-9382-419C-AE8E-B4BA758DF754.jpeg C3A3AEB0-E148-43E5-96DA-7035CAA7F3AA.png 84C1D310-ED1B-4E2C-9E95-16B6736FDCD3.png DC6A0FF7-4145-438C-83AA-E14CAA2067F5.jpeg 523EA67E-18EB-4943-B4E1-1BE3B52976A8.jpeg 5DB4963F-DA61-4D38-A147-70CA1B4ACC70.png

Thanks 4ever18 for the pics! They will definitely help me “stay the course.” When I start getting into things I might need to hit you up for parts depending on what I need! P.s. looks like I was in your neck of the woods about 3 weeks ago while we were on our road trip. We made a stop in Blountville TN which I think is pretty close to you if I am not mistaken

Yep, you were no more than 20 miles from my home.

The 4 door hardtop ‘56/7 Chevy is so unique. The finished all black car is in the Greenville /Morristown area, if I remember correctly.

    Best wishes for your project.

  16. If I remember correctly the '56-7 BelAir 4 door 'sport sedan' was a couple notches up from BelAir 2 & 4 door sedans on the factory food chain. Generally those regular sedans weren't BelAir's & were mostly 210's & 150's. I know it's not such a big deal nowadays but back then it was....

I’ve seen a few 210 4 door hardtops, but very few.

^^My dad had one that was owned by the Catholic diocese of El Paso. Rust free, but the front bumper and windshield were really pitted from the blowing sand. Really solid car, went to the Abilene area.

You live in a really pretty area and if I am not mistaken there is a good drag strip not to far away!

As it turns out the passenger side doors are 210 which means I have to look for the bel air stainless mounding up top.

I sold the ‘vette earlier this year in order to make room for my “garage find”.

A good friend recently picked up a straight 56 4 door hardtop. Complete & solid car that will get updated drive train, cleaned & upholstered, a decent family daily driver. Some years back, a buddy bought at auction, really cheap, a solid 57, 4 door sedan. One owner grandma car, some minor dings as the garage was getting a bit narrow. Did exhaust & brakes & minor repairs, & had a very nice daily driver for very low bucks. I'd like to have either one.

That is a worthy “garage find.” Have you posted any other pictures of it here on the H.A.M.B.? I’d sure like to see more.
I understand what you mean about the corvette guys. I come from a “corvette family” where they were drag raced, street raced and daily driven so I am quite familiar with having to deal with the “other” corvette guys. I had an OT red 69’ 427 car while in the Navy back in 2000. It was my daily driver complete with L88 hood, Richmond 5spd, slots and side pipes. My new then wife burned her leg every time she got out of the car. I sold it the week before I got deployed to go play in the big sand box in the Middle East. Never to be seen again. I don’t miss it too much and would rather have your Ford than another corvette.....maybe a 56 a 61.
