60D0C3E6-FF41-45B3-8D21-55B04309EB62.jpeg F750AAEA-932B-4CAA-859C-5E8E3B018331.jpeg Swapped in a 35/36 rear with 3.54 gears into the banger 32 today. Relatively straight forward , used 35/36 radius rods shortened about 15” . Used a 35/36 spring with scallops ground at spring perch points to mimic the 32 spring curve with teflon lined spring pack , as these were already in the spring. Juice brakes all fitted OK. Park brake worked great also.
The original 32 rear had dodgy welded spring hangers , probably from some one cutting them off to fit in a lathe as it had new bearing races on the axle ends. They looked like an accident waiting to happen.
    Think I will need a 17 or 18 count speedo turtle .
The rear sits approx 1” lower , but the axle moved only 1/4” forward , but visually looks more unfortunately. Though the spring rate feels great and still 4”of travel so able to carry a decent load.
Nothing is painted fancy as this is how the 32 looks ,used and fun ,ready to haul.

953CA5EC-D146-45B9-AE11-11019EFA4884.jpeg Don’t know if anyone has ran into this problem but good to know and check. Sorry for the novel post.

My banger has the FSI distributor and plug wires they make. After putting the dual updraft carb setup on the car was sputtering and running like crap full throttle. (Idle and blipping the throttle was fine) So thinking it was a fuel issue being too rich since plugs were sooted up I began to play with jet sizes. Still same symptoms. As I pulled the first plug wire I noticed it was turning. The plug wire ends are a screw in type of connector. All were loose but cylinder 1 and 2 were the worst. Recut all wires and put a dab of red loc-tite on screw ends. Just something to check in case you’re at a loss or get a brand new wire set from them. Other than that I love this ignition.

    Also hello from Rhode Island......

Kiwi 4d is going to build an OHV Banger, Cragar/Miller head engine. IMG_20170325_172737085.jpg
This is for him....well and anyone else who cares....because this photo didn't make it on the thread he started and I replied to...
The spring cap had interference with the rocker or the rocker with the cap...they collided in the closed position.
Used offset keepers to lower the cap, it also helped with closing pressure on the springs. I recall the shim between the rocker stand and the head was in the neighborhood of .032" to help with the contact placement of the rocker on the valve stem. Got to remember to put a hole in the shim that corresponds with the oil passage to the rocker shaft.

That's my check in for the month.

    Back with another question:

Is anyone running the new Edelbrock 94? What jets, and pv are you running? I seem to be running rich. Also, is there a way to determine what pv you need I you don’t have access to manifold vacuum?

No direct experience with the repop 94. On my original, B cam, A engine, Lion head. I have adjustable main jets. I'm running a 4.5 power valve.

    Good luck

On my last banger with an original 94 I ran 50 jets and 6.5 power valve at sea level and it ran great. It's a little on the rich side but with the Wico mag it's better to be on the rich side than lean.

Posted this in the “what did you do today “thread but thought I’d post it here too,,We dismantled the A diff from our coupe ,,it has a Hot Rod Works centre and axle conversion,,and I am goingto make a solid spacer to go between the pinion bearings so preload is solidly set ,,it will be a bit of muckingaround but may strengthen things a bit wasn’t totally happy with my carrier preload so I can redo and be sure ,,,we are running a 3.0 mercruiser so it will have a little more sting ,,my local diff guy recommended this spacer ,,,still closed drive connected to a late 3 speed all synchro top loader with a t150 Jeep shift,,

I've been driving my banger with all my newly installed hop up parts for about a week. I'm already over the Lakes style header. It's just not for me. I have a NOS 4 into 1 header, that must be at least 30 years old, The guy I got it from told me it hung in his garage for over 25 years. It looks pretty good quality and has spacers welded onto it for the intake.

I'm not sure what size pipe to use and what muffler. I was recently told to use the stock muffler and pipe, that doesn't make sense to me for added performance.

Any suggestions for pipe size, pipe length and muffler?

im using a reds 4-1 header . works well . running a single muffler & split after for dual out lets . glass packs don't live long & then its like straight pipes . with my system I have little room for a muffler . I originally built it around a porter 12" muffler (actually it was a straight thru) . I now have a (12") all metal baffled muffler . still a little loud but its ok . I think to get mine quit it would have to be a complete new system . mine comes out in front of both rear wheels . a longer out the back could have more possibities . I guess it depends on your taste & how loud you want
it . this is mine ..………..

    i believe the header is 2 1/2 , therefore 2 1/2" exhaust pipe .

Hi Steve ,I presume the spacer will do the job like a crush washer does in a late model diff when collapses down to achieve desired preload and support for their pinion bearings ,,the high powered guys use a solid spacer and shims between bearings to avoid crush washer collapses ,,what are your thoughts maybe I’m overthinking this ,,

looks like a one time set . I presume you use shims . really cool idea ………. I still have the "A" diff , so I use inch pounds for preload ……..

  25. Looking to get auto advance for my banger.
Do you guys recommend the NuRex Automatic Spark Timing System (Mechanical Advance)
    Or an FSI Distributor?

Yes, but it depends how much you will drive it. If you plan on driving it a lot, the the FSI is your best solution.
