  1. Ford Rotunda burned in 1962. Those are 64's.
Most likely the 1964 World's Fair, Ford used production cars for the ride. Several years ago at the Detroit Autorama a Mercury was displayed which was one of the cars used.

To the handful that post regularly, I say kick ass, one of the best threads for a daily fix of days gone by.

    Hey Guys,

Good catch on the reversed image. Otherwise, the steering wheel would have had one of those rare, slip-on units on the steering wheel or the standard outside “lean on the paint” versions that were extremely popular back then. Some of the drive-in restaurants that we frequented had the passenger side, “inside of the car” trays. It did not take much to place the small flat hook inside of any window channel. The rest of the tray supports held it up quite well, with two rubber tips pushing against the inside of the door panel. I remember the waitress leaning in to tighten the adjusting knob to keep the tray secure in the three point stance.

Yes, we all had to move the bench seat back to eat comfortably with that tray in front. Otherwise, the tray and food was usually outside, leaning on your paint. Maybe it was one of those inclement weather days and the windows had to be rolled up and closed. The large window looks to be in the UP position, too.

Aaaah, those high school “cruising-the-drive-in days” certainly stay in our minds, even today. With the smell and taste of "Gravy on French Fries and "Cherry Cokes" to wash them down. (Let alone, smelling and tasting those greasy hamburgers…) Hot rods? Sometimes, it was the food that satisfied the hungry teenager, not the hot rods cruising through the drive-in lot.

The first photo shows Mauri Rose and Joe Lencki at a dirt track during 1946. The photo shows an Offy engine although almost all records seem to show a Lencki 6 cylinder engine. Lencki must have always entered his cars for the 6 cylinder whether it was actually being used or not. Not sure what track.

The other photo shows some traffic during the 1953 500. I think that's Gene Hartley in the front of the pack with Jim Rathmann in the #2 roadster.
