I remember seeing this Buick at a show many years ago, before the resurgence of Customs.
It sat totally ignored in the back of the old Richmond Arena, parked under a leaky roof.
The original upholstery was cracked, tail lights were '59 Cadillac, and the motor was a 6-71 Blown 396 Chevy(!).

I didn't know its history then, but I knew it was the real deal.
I'm so glad it fell into the right hands.

 

Link Paola's Chevy?? One of the best early customs, EVER!!

 

Actually, Spence Murray was a gopher at Link Paola's body shop at the time.
Link talked Spence out of the body of his brand new '49 Fastback, in order to flip a wreck within the calendar year.
In return, he agreed to replace Spence's body with a new one from the factory, as well as customize it.
The body arrived completely bare, and after chopping the top, Link pretty much copped out on the deal.
The car was finished up by Spence and other Paola employees over a period of time, working after hours.
Murray's magazine editorship began some years later.

 

The car was finished before the new models debuted at the dealership in 49. So they took it to the dealer when the new models debuted and was told by the owner to move the car, it got all the attention. Link convinced Spence to sell the car when a good offer was made to them. Link was supposed to build another car for Spence, but that didn`t happen. Spence wrote an article showing his trip to Indy stopping along the way at schools showing off his ride. Omaha and Des Moines were mentioned in the article.

I saw Dave Shuten posted on IG that Barry was going to show his Cadillac some love in the near future.
I assume that Dave will be giving it a "makeover".
