Another checkpoint. The Chevy is the next oldest car on the rally. IMG_20181027_142315.jpeg

We are in Illinois today. I don't know the car count, maybe 50? Will know more tonight or tomorrow. I've been driving all day and no chance to see what's going on in the world.

One of the repurposed Muffler Men that had been a Bunyon’s giant before being moved and dubbed “Tall Paul” by the locals there. A neat “ roadside attraction “

No doubt! Just looking at the side view, it'd be neat to shorten it the width of the back doors and make it a two door!

Y'all should have had some business cards made up and passed them out: "City Morgue, you stab'em, we slab'em"!

And just down the road on Old Rt. 66 is Funk's Grove, IL a good place to get real maple syrup bottled locally. ;)

    Eric Rood took that picture.

The syrup place was another checkpoint, the sign that says halfway point of route 66. I guess they mean between Chicago and st Louis.

    at Funk's Grove checkpoint.

    funk.jpg

We discovered late tonight that the fuel pump (a Holley blue off my 55 chevy) is leaking quite a bit, and we'll have to swap the spare (from my Chevy II) on in the morning.

We've been adding a gallon of water about every hour, now that it's not raining, it's pretty obvious that it's coming from the water pump. I add some more grease to the water pump bushing every time, too. Hopefully it won't get worse.

and now that it's warming up, we have top keep the radiator cap on tight, so it won't boil.

still driving ok. The brakes work well enough that I didn't hit that deer near the Chain of Rocks bridge tonight.

I might have missed it, but would like to know for my own self-is that a 12v pump on a 6v system, and if it is, does it care?

  29. Is the water pump leaking from the weep hole?

I’ve heard of guys parking the pump full of silicon from the weep hole to cough, cough ... ahem... “ fix” water pump leaks.

Maybe when you stop for the night fill it up and let it cure over night.
