Not car related, but definitely "LACK of MAINTENANCE"
I could not believe what I found when on my nephews' Toro GroundsMaster when checking out why the Mitsubishi diesel engine was hard-starting.
This wasn't their doing.....They bought the unit "used", and they did go see it and drive it.
Seemed to run OK at the time; early fall.
But there were some problems starting it when the weather got a little colder.

This is/was the dry air cleaner assembly ..... Toro 223D aircleaner assy_1.JPG

A little rust...a few holes? No prob, stuff in some paper shop towels...

    Toro 223D aircleaner cup_3.JPG

There's actually a 60w trouble light inside here...
    Toro 223D airfilter w 60w lightbulb.JPG

    Toro 223D airfilter w 60w lightbulb_2.JPG

Ran a compression check. Not good. Poor little Mitsubishi....could barely breathe !
And if it did, it inhaled all kinds of grit, rust, fibers, etc.
The engine had to be replaced as it would only start when it was warm out, or with ether.
    Not ideal for snow-blowing.

    New filter assembly,
Toro 223D aircleaner nut and safety pin.JPG

The existing air intake was just behind and slightly above the left drive wheel.
Excellent location for sucking up water, dirt, and debris.

Built this assembly to get the air intake ABOVE "water-line"...

Engine replaced, and all work done. But a few months later they sold it.

What in the fuck is the trailer hitch doing on that front end ?!?!

I am speechless at everything I have seen there is just so much wrong with everything on this .... um.... car?!?

Trailer ball appears to being used as a ball joint attaching the front axle to the frame with short leaf springs under them. Wonder what the rod and pivot does running up towards the front? On top of all that, it has coil-over shocks along with the cut down leaf springs!

  5. Looks like a school experiment on how to design a suspension using no conventional or logical engineering.

Looks like it's a Twin Traction Beam, 4x4 version of the Twin-I Beam.
Either that thing has 4wd or there is a diff just hanging on the axle as dead weight

  16. I wish I could say the same for my nose. :D

So this thread will be closed soon with the OT pics of RRs being posted. I would rather see real Wall of Shame pics of repairs and "what were they thinking"...and not pics of what that RR crowd likes. I'll just unsubscribe.

I always loved this idea....never thought of buying an exhaust system at Home Depot. Need to make sure you use the aluminum and not the vinyl though!!!:D

  27. Since I was a 16 year old idiot, I'll confess to this stuff we did in the '50's. My friend had a '49 Lincoln, I had a '50 Olds. Both had heavy rocker panel rot. We taped over all the exposed rust holes, then made some big holes in the top of the rocker panel. Mixed up some thin plaster of paris and poured it in the rockers. When it set up, we pulled the tape, did a little finish sanding and sprayed primer over it with a bug sprayer. Looked perfectly good from a few feet.
