The clearance into the framerail is all my fault. Lots of guys have used a Vega box on a 40 Ford with no issue, but I was all jack batty about using the set of headers I had rather than make my own or modify Chevvie style fenderwell headers. If I had it to do over again, I would do the fenderwell headers and elevate the problem.

He's normally a Pontiac fiend, but this car has a 394 Olds.

This is Pontiac powered, not sure what you're missing here?

So you went with the Offie rocker covers instead of the old M/Ts. Either way your car is badass!!!

I saw the car back a few years ago when I went out to visit and he had a 394 Olds mocked up in it. My apologies. It may have been another project car he had in the shop I was thinking of. Jeff, tell me I don’t have dimentia....

Nice to hear from you, my friend. The car has been done a few months and has about 2500 miles on her with no issue. I spend a lot of time here:

Yep. She should MPH out the back pretty well, but I don't expect to get the '60 under 2.8. My guess is a 13.60 @ 118mph.

    Well find out in August...…

Which black did you use, was it a black basewith a mat clear, or did you use flatten compound in it, it looks a little glossy for DP 40 ? I want my 29 Roadster the same color. Thanks Frank

I have tried 100 different ways to get a decent semi gloss black. This car is John Deere Blitz black WITH hardener. I did a bunch of test panels and without hardner they were way too flat. I'm NEVER EVER EVER going to paint another car shiny black, so I'm calling this good enough.

Thanks, I am also done with shiney black cars. I have been in the paint and body almost my whole life and I know what it takes to make them shiney and black. Lots of block sanding and primering, and if you can't shoot it slick there is more color sanding and buffing.
    Thanks again Frank

  24. That's good info! I'm sitting on a gallon of JD black. What hardener did you use?
    Thanks!

  25. Now, THAT mo-fo looks like a lotsa fun! See you in Joplin, Bro. I'd start talkin a bunch of shit about how my 34 can beat your 40 in a drag race but my Pontiac motor is a teeny leetle 370 inch slug. Still, I plan to run it through a few times for time.

for just a moment i thought you meant jack daniels!...

  27. Once again something out of nothing and rolling down the road. I am a fan of all your builds as they are no-nonsense and usually start with just about nothing and turn out full hot rod. What is next to the build or are you concentrating on the new garage space?

34FE367D-B34F-4C80-8091-A1D6F5B86E0B.jpeg This one is next. It will look very similar to the shiny black one I did about 8 years ago. Big motor, quickchange, lots of louvers. If I can ever get the damn garage built.
