While I'm outlining your flames I was snooping around for colors that work with blue and looky what I found...I would love to see this in its entirety...

That's an Escondido CA shot: I've seen the truck (local) at Cruising Grand and I see the old Home Federal brick bank building on Grand Ave reflected in the paint...

And BTW, that truck is totally finished, detailed "to the nines", with the same level of paint and pin striping under the hood and on the dash, as well as lots of show-quality chrome plating. A bad-ass ride...

  16. I don't normally like Flames, that said I've had my share of flamed cars and trucks.

Flames on my beater shop truck. My buddy Blakmerk says mine are Lobster Claw Flames. Pretty sure that is not a compliment....

Those would be round at both ends?...:D

Seriously I am aware of that East Coast/West Coast Regional styling claims and what you are saying it actually gets right down to things like flames...interesting is it perhaps a particular flame artist and that would be Central as well.

    Thumbs Up Flame conversation commencing...;)

There seem to be a modern streetroddy type of flame referenced in Hotrod online but there is obviously Hamb era flames adorning that regions Hotrods and Customs.

It would be no surprise to expect competent Regional Bodyshops back in the day to have Painters that applied their own style of Vintage Flames and other Custom touches and through their quality became quite legendary amongst the crowd.

This book is about the region you are referencing but I could not find any pics of vintage in my brief search...

Slopok's car is about the only 49/51 Merc that I do like with flames. On other rigs I think several said what I think, it depend on the car and if the flames are done right for the total look of the car.

The "Kid" reminds me of the band, the Eagles. The Eagles' songs are music for all times and the "Kid" is a style for all times. Also, just for the record, I will ALWAYS think of Pete when I see that '34.

There is just something about a slightly dumped '40 coupe that makes me think flames should have been an option offered by Edsel, just to piss off Ol Henry a bit.

I never thought I'd outgrow flames but just going through these four pages so far has me
not wanting to see a flame job for quite some time. It'd be ridiculous to say they don't look
good, many of the pics here show some really nice cars, they've just been done to death. Then
there are the black with flames shop shirts that guys save for the car shows, the tattoos,
    mailboxes, shorts and shoes.

There's alot about this Hotrod/Custom/Race stuff thats been done to death and being we are stepping back as we subscribe too there is every chance that wild 40s, 50s, 60s vibe is a form of revisit...I find it like, live in your face Art...the pics are the next best thing.

You did post some stunning examples @quick85...

If I felt all this Period 65 and down was done to death I would possibly question the allegiance to this thing we celebrate here. You can't erase what is Period and Tradition...it happened. I'm glad to see support and respect for all the aspects that define the rules and guidelines.

Honestly this History is new to me as I was too young to live it. Now I can.

If I had a different life where I could have more than my single only Hotrod a flamed Custom or Hotrod would be a definite possibility for me.

The other thing is why start a thread if you can't stand a Traditional aspect...when others do...its a done deal...talking hate or dislike only divides and is quite frankly inappropriate.

Not all of this stuff is pretty...I understand and enjoy it all...without it all it's not what it was...cheers
