Quick I remember shops like that very well here in NY and they did have a small selection of all sorts of models. Kind of one stop shopping for kids. Ice cream, candy, toys, rubber balls, chalk, kites etc. Gee whiz Opie I sound like the Beav now.

How I miss those small shops but all good things come to an end. I want to go back (in time) to
the old Ben Franklin and buy those old travel decals that dad's put on the station wagon windows,
and the Lady Luck ones also. Ten cents each, gimme a break. And I want a roll of BBs, and a box
of caps for the cap gun, and a wiffle ball and...

Hello,
Rooman IS correct. It is Mailliard, not MALLARD. Joe Mailliard's shop was so close to our Long Beach house that we peddled our bicycles over there to check things out weekly. The Drag News came from this shop and Mickey Thompson's shop, that had the same address as the old MAILLIARD'S SPEED SHOP. He was instrumental in so many So Cal drag race cars and builds. Let's not make a mistake like some people and spell Art Chrisman ...Christman. They are icons of the drag racing and hot rod scene. History from the ground floor in So Cal.

Peter Eames' Holden bodied car has several significant variation from the American Willys. Holden was (like Fisher Body) a coach builder that moved into the automotive field and was eventually acquired by General Motors. As well as building all of the bodies for GM in Australia Holden continued to build some of the Willys bodies while T J Richards (which later was absorbed by Chrysler) built the rest which included five window coupes.
Note that the door upper frame is a simple channel section rather than part of the door skin stamping as per the US cars. Not quite so obvious in the photo is the fact that there is no rocker panel below the door as the door skin rolls under at the lower edge and extends to the body of the body. On this car the running boards have been replaced with a fabricated piece that covers the frame which would otherwise be exposed below the body.
This photo of my old shop truck shows the variations a little better.
