Great work. This thread is always on my look see. And I know what you mean about time, 60-70 hrs a week, spare time is rough. Old adage got money and no time and opposite.

 

Take your time. Everything is looking great so far. That thing is gonna be a bad ass hotrod.

 

Thanks guys, was hoping to get going on this again over winter, but now have a couple long term customer projects that are taking all my time. Will keep at it though, a little here, a little there......

 

Nice to see you made some progress.
I'm envious. I haven't had a chance to touch my Packard project since late July.

Got the 9 inch axle back together with new bearings and seals etc. Still need to do the brakes.
I'm missing one brake drum if anyone has an extra for an early 9 in.(57-61?)
Also de-rusted and repaired the door latches and window regulators......vinegar bath works great for those. Ready for paint

Aren't the 9" drums the same from 57-72 (trucks). If you want to go with automatic self adjusters you can use the later model brake hardware. The trucks got the self adjusting brakes starting in 66. I'm not sure what year the cars went to the self adjusters but it was several years earlier than the trucks.

Great idea Bobby, except the wheel bolt pattern is different....most of the brake hardware is the same.
I can get repop drums but they are$$$ and ugly too. An OE drum in good condition is probably like hens teeth though.

I take it that, that 9" is from a car?
My mistake, I have truck stuff on the brain and car stuff didn't cross my mind.

The upgrade to self adjusting hardware should still be about the same though.

Yes, it's from a '58 Ford car. No worries, and I plan to use the self adjusters.

 

This project is sooo neglected....... I noticed the other day the bare metal is starting to rust. So I decided to finish the bodywork and get it into primer. I don't have the time or skills to metal finish this, it will need a skim coat of plastic in most areas.

 

An update finally..... over the winter I've been slowly doing bodywork in any free time i had. This week I got the main body into primer! I'm stoked, now I need to do the doors. And a bunch of other stuff. But this is a huge leap forward!

Loved the 'save' with the Hudson frame addition...Front axle is gorgeous, crazy about the Elliot style axle.
Nice work also on the matching of Explorer hats and GM calipers; look like the 'grew' there. Brackets look strong and sanitary.

'A' pillars lined up and finished beautifully...also the slices in the rear outboard of the rear window. Very professional. Channel was subtle, one would have to study it to tell.
Great thread, enjoying it immensely.

 

Currently doing some horse trading....may end up with another FE! Freshly rebuilt 390 w/a GM 700r4 adapted. Guy also has a nice vintage tri power I'm drooling over.

The trade deal on the 390 didn't work out, but I did manage to score this! Gen U wine FOMOCO FE tri power!

 

Did they say what the tripower was from? It looks kinda like a T-bird manifold from the way the carbs sit.

 

Supposedly from a 406 Galaxy. The carb bases are angled, not flat, if that's what you are referring to.
