I have SF and they have been great. When we got hit in the rear and it pushed us into two other cars. The car in front of us got totaled. Our car steel 34 coupe. SF jacked us around for a couple weeks but when the dust settled they gave us what we wanted. They wanted to straighten the frame but they ended up giving us a new frame. We were happy with outcome. Grundy sucks they screwed a friend of ours and also Hot Turkey. Just ask him

The most important thing about insurance is not “ where” you buy it, it’s “ what” you buy. Most people never read the fine print. VERY important! It will tell exactly what and how it’s covered...... Then comes the claims adjuster! He can make or break the whole deal.

No matter which insurance company you choose, someone somewhere will give you a horror story about that company, and lots of time you don’t get the “whole story”.

I started buying insurance fifty some years ago on a verity of things.

While we’re on insurance...... how many of the guys here have just the state minimum on their daily drivers,? that is 20/50/20 full coverage ........If that is all you have...... you have nothing.

I'm thinking that a lot of guys think that "Stated Value" and "Agreed Value" are thesame thing. NOT.

My son has an Agreed Value Policy with American Family Insurance. When his 57 Wagon got flooded, we had to call the Insurance Commissioner to get the company to pay the agreed amount! We had to call the Insurance Commissioner the 2nd time to be able to buy the car back. it took almost 3 months to get that mess straightened out. Gene

That's just from the first three pages, each, from searches for "Grundy" and "Hagerty", respectively. You're sure to find additional ones if you search for "insurance", "State Farm", or similar.

Well, I somewhat disagree. I think a local agent is very important. I have had my agent for 30 years-home, business, autos, personal liability. He knows me, will go to bat for me and always is willing to review the policies AND the fine print. An agent who's local has their rep to consider and they are not "like" a good neighbor, they "are" a good neighbor. Got an agent on line or in the city? What do they care?

5 window, I agree. A good agent should be considered when choosing insurance.

  9. I had State farm for years but their rates kept creeping up and then I had a claim, they payed off and then cancelled my home owners insurance and wanted to keep my auto insurance.

I am now insured with what was Chrome, now AMPAC with everything, agreed value on my hot rods, daily drivers and home.

The premiums are about half what I was paying State Farm

One thing they offer is builders insurance, if you garage was hit by lightning (act of God) your project would be covered by agreed value insurance, my cousin learned the hard way when his garage burnt to the ground and lost his under construction Porsche his insurance didn't cover it. For those that don't know, home owners insurance does not cover anything automotive related unless it may be generic tools or something like that. Cars and car parts fall under auto insurance.
That was a lesson I learned when a straight 60 mph wind destroyed my 3 car garage one time. My home owners insurance covered everything except the damage on the 3 cars in the garage. Those 3 project cars were not covered by auto insurance fortunately, the damage on all 3 was minimal because I had to repair them out of my pockets. Gene

I find, in general, that insurance tends to cover everything except your situation at the time. :)

  12. I don't have anything to ad to this (have never had a claim) but think of this, Why do you buy insurance? Peace of mind? sounds like you are not getting your money's worth. If you have doubts, do some research and get a different company. If your company did not do the right thing with the first claim, will they do better the second time around?

  13. I have AAA for the house and all my cars. I had a specialty car policy on the Roadster but on a whim I asked the Grundy rep at LARS about their insurance. She had me fill out a form and a week or so later they emailed me asking for a picture. A week later I got a quote that was 2x my agreed value, 60K from Grundy and 125 bucks less a year plus Zero deductible on comp and collision. I went with Grundy!!

I'm curious as why you find this so outlandish. I find it perfectly logical for an insurance company to refuse to offer coverage for a vehicle that is not properly equipped for use on public roads.

  15. It is properly equipped, In NC a wiper is not required unless the windshield is in your field of vision, which mine is not. It has all other NC required lights and safety gear like lap belts.

We have it a lot tougher up here in Minnesota than you do! However, I am not surprised at all that they refused to cover you; insurance companies are like that.

Ahh, dude, in fact, almost no one trusts insurance companies. I do not understand how you can trust them if you understand that they should profit from you. Insurance companies have deceived me so many times that I already hate them. I had an accident many times and as a result, everyone found out that I was not to blame but the insurance agents did not pay me the money. In the end, I decided to take a chance again and find another insurance company. This time I came across guys from generalliabilityinsure.com. In the end, it turned out that my friend worked with them before he left for Australia. I hope that at least they won’t deceive me and take my money ..

I have collector car insurance through American Modern via AAA. when the Morgan (in my avatar) was hit last spring by an (unlicensed, uninsured) fellow in a double cab Silverado, AM was very accommodating, seemed to understand that enthusiasts don't think of their cars as appliances, and was happy to indulge me in replacing the rare and hard to find bits. I felt satisfied with their response.

I would not trust State Farm for anything. I heard so many negative things about them. Thus, when I was choosing an insurance company for my car, I paid attention to every single detail, to be sure that I will not have such problems as others. For some years, I have car insurance from https://www.moneyexpert.com/car-insurance/, on their site I found everything that I needed to know about insurance and even the prices for it. I trust them and I am sorry that you all needed to deal with such situations.

You wouldn't get by in Pennsylvania, either. No quite sure why you'd want to intentionally drive illegally.

2005 North Carolina Code - General Statutes § 20-127. Windows and windshield wipers.
§ 20‑127. Windows and windshield wipers.

    (a) Windshield Wipers. A vehicle that is operated on a highway and has a windshield shall have a windshield wiper to clear rain or other substances from the windshield in front of the driver of the vehicle and the windshield wiper shall be in good working order. If a vehicle has more than one windshield wiper to clear substances from the windshield, all the windshield wipers shall be in good working order.

I used to have State Farm but as previously posted I never felt good about their Agreed Value provision. Went with Grundy and have been with them for years but never had a claim. I've read on the HAMB that if you drive to the store an have an accident Grundy won't pay. Supposedly they only cover driving to and from car shows. My policy with Grundy expires 8/30/20. I've decided to go with Hagerty.

With the current virus situation, people are driving less and I saw a news article about an insurance company called Edelweiss that will insure based upon your mileage and not on how many cars you have. Seemed like a good idea it unfortunately they are based in India. Hopefully, this will spread here.

I've used J.C. Taylor since 1983. Always had at least one running car insured by them and as many as 4 cars at the same time. Never had a claim, always paid on time. Last year I wanted to insure my '36 3w build for fire & theft and they gave me a rough time because it wasn't painted. I finally went through a couple of supervisor types (all the while remaining calm & civil, much as it hurt me to do so) and they agreed to insure it for $15k, although I can document much more than that I have in it. I don't think they had any idea what my car was worth. As I was moving out of state, I didn't have time to look further, but at renewal time, I think I'll switch my insurance needs to Haggerty !

Including Pennsylvania which isn't actually a state (it's a commonwealth) and Washington, DC which is not state either. It's, well, it's Washington, DC.
