The old truck has had flames for nearly 30 years, my toilet seat has flames, the shop door has flames, my shop refrigerator has flames. When I drove a school bus, it had flames(magnetic). When someone is rambling on about whether something is cool, or trendy, or..., I usually busy myself by doodling flames on paper.

Where is my paper and pen?

Apologies this isn't a picture of the actual car. Not a flame guy but this one pulls it off well. 39-40 Fords look great with 'em, too. JMHO.

I like "Ghost Flames" that are so deep in the paint that the light has to be just right in order to see them.

I really liked flames on the hot rods when I was a kid, but it seems the older I get the less I like flame jobs. That said, I really like the ghost flames I see once in a while, nowadays. The kind you got to look twice to see them. No pics. I have never been able to catch them. I've tried.

So Slopok your Merc I can get into, really cool. One of a very few I can get into.
I should have said in my first post, that I do appreciate the talent and hard work that goes into laying down flames. To much work for me, those guys have a lot of patience.

A big thumbs down. Flames have come and gone. Unfortunately some folks just don't realiize it. They kind of remind me of the Easter Egg colors of the 80's and the graphics of the 90's. Time to give it up.

image.png Most cars would look just as good or better without flames.....but every once in a while a flame job is a home run. There are many different styles of flames.....most styles are ugly IMHO, but the California Kid for example, is a home run. The problem is, when selling a car.....the buyer not only has to like flames, he has to like the style of flames YOU thought looked cool. Good way to decrease the amount of potential buyers, as flame job removal ain't easy.

I almost forgot this is a traditional Hotrod/Custom site......therefore this is really an interesting subject. It gives an overview of historical period respect...Hotrods/Customs without flames...hmmmm

  14. The flames on my F-100 are merely an outline and that’s how I like it.[IMG]

Those are beautifully laid flames. Whoever pulled those had the magic touch no if's and's or but's...
adding color wouldn't hurt a darn thing either...You should let the Photoshop gods have a whirl at it...it may change your mind...;)

Some cars look so right with flames (40's)-some not so much. I like them but not on my cars.

  23. The gentleman who did them is Junior Nelson. Been doing longer than I’ve been alive and he’s been my friend for 35 years. Which is to say I trust him.

I saw flames on a Nissan Leaf the other day. I commented about how ridiculous it was to my wife. It was completely lost on her.

  30. I liked them in the '50s, I liked them in the '60s, in the '70s I had them on a Myers Manx bodied VW and I still like them today. Traditional flames and scallops are cool imo! 457307-1364829944-569f328c91caec14bd7a89f73f2e51bb.jpg
