Vintage shots from days gone by!

I read about the crash in the California Hot Rod Reunion program, and ran into Harold the next morning, and he confirmed it. I met him back in the 80's, when he was running the Juggers Bantam, even sold him a set of Forgetrue pistons, and some boxed rods. Good guy !!

 

Ahhh... How sad! That would have been so cool to see it still hanging around.

Cliff House San Francisco
Hello,
This curve on Highway 1 along the Southern border of the city of San Francisco is well known, but the views created a lot of traffic hazards. Not only was the parking a problem for the restaurant, coming around the corner and the big sedans backing out was the major hazard.

By the time we drove up here back and forth along the coastline from 66-69, there were at least two lanes on both sides and parking was limited. Also, the huge waves and storms destroyed the pier. It was taken out and off of the beach.

Since that time and road change, the city has gone back to a single lane with bicycle preferential lanes next to the diagonal parking. Instead of parallel parking and two lanes, the maximum amount of cars in diagonal spaces helps with the tourism and dining at the Cliff House.

The food and views anywhere from the Cliff House Restaurant are outstanding. It is a must stop as the Cliff House is the farthest West the City of SF extends out into the Pacific Ocean.

Everytime we drove up the coast to San Francisco, the primary thing to do was to stop at the Cliff House Restaurant for lunch or dinner. It is the farthest West that San Francisco sticks out into the ocean. The restaurant was built on the cliff side and offers oceanfront dining all times of the day. Needless to say, it becomes quite crowded with tourists and has become one of the big stops in S.F. tourism.

My dad took us there when we were little, 1949, 52, and 57. By 1958/59, travels with the “parents” was a no-no. But, we drove up to the Bay Area many times in the mid 60’s during the hey day of the “flower power/rock music” times and stopped there for lunch.

The atmosphere there is something. Below, the ocean is so rough, that it is impressive. The big waves breaking on the rocks, gives this place a total ocean experience.

Being from So Cal and growing up enjoying all kinds of waves, this Northern California oceanfront restaurant always impresses when the surf is pounding just outside of those windows. The one bad thing about this restaurant: Your car always needs a wash after parking around the complex. There is no way to keep the salt air off of your car.

Late at night, the combination of salt air and strong winds makes every car look like someone sprayed it with a salt water machine. It even tastes salty. If left on for a day or two, salt crust builds on your chrome and paint. NOT A GOOD THING…
