All those emblems on those hood sides are V-6's 305" gas hogs as I remember. V-8's were pretty rare for those in my area.

Like Jimmy Six said, these were big old V-6s; they started at 305 cubic inches for the pickups, and for commercial truck they got much bigger. They had a boxcar load of low end torque, but were heavy and thirsty.

The GMC 702, along with Ford's 534, IH's 549FTV and the Hall-Scott 1091 were truly the gasoline engine's last gasp in fire service applications. The Hall-Scott, often straight-piped, put out a 3-foot long flame when in pump gear.

Belmont Sanchez '53 Stude...a true Bonneville icon. (First door-slammer over 200 MPH.)

    A little later; 230 MPH.

That's 1958, Guys. That Stude is a five tear old car! Sanchez caught on fast...everybody else followed!

Chet Herbert used to advertise in HRM... "Any car, any grind, $35".
Dial the number, and talk to Chet himself.

This one was new to me:

Used in buses, fire trucks, pumps, etc. Since it was based on the V-6, it was a 60° V-8 and had a balance shaft. There’s one on YouTube, search for GMC 637.
