It's part of "Kustom Kulture", a lifestyle based on the fifties with newer attitudes like the heavy tattoos. I know a number of young women into this that also do things the women in the fifties didn't do like build their own cars, custom paint, pinstripe...it's a different world.

Pretty sure it's a Cessna 120. Luscombe's did not have the spring steel main gear legs and Cessna 140's had flaps(the previous Cessna 120 model had no flaps).

  5. My premier beating. A guy challenged me in a really rough looking 59 Lark 2 door post.
Mud spattered, crushed left 1/4 panel, faded, a real rat.
He cleaned my clock by car lengths ( more than I care to admit).
My Rochester injected 283 was hot but no match for his R3 Supercharged Lark’s engine.
Yeah, those Studebakers can step it up.

  6. LGS, I didn't know any girls in that ere with tattoos. Not in the midwest. Very few guys, even.

  10. From where I lived in western Canada, I only know of a few guys that had a single, or at most two tattoos. They picked them up either while overseas during the Korean War, or while they did service in the Navy. I don't recall one woman from that era with a tattoo. I grew up in a town of 10,000 in BC, and there were two pool halls, but no tattoo parlour.

When the cold winter days come, I'm restarting my read & going back in time to Original post "01" & following to "16,7XX."... this thread is HAMB's great contribution to hot rod history!

during '50s the only tats I saw as a kid was on old men that had come back from WAR
my cousin was in navy and he had them, got them in asia when drunk as a lot of men did.
during '70s he hated them and always had them covered up

Love seeing some of the old Aussie photos. The first one is probably in Western Australia which is where the Swan Brewery was(see Swan pilsener sign)

V6's ??? As far as I know the options back in the day were 6-in-line or V8.
