Guys: My friends Don Graham and Wyatt Bowman (were to host Gene's model show at his high desert shop Oct. 13,14 this year) informed me that Gene broke his hip in Finland, and is hospitalized there. (I was previously led to believe it was in Australia, not so)
The 'Go Fund Me' account is payable thru PAYPAL.

Anyone ever give money to a Go Fund Me thing? How does it work, can I use Paypal? I'd like to throw in a few bucks for Gene, but I would rather not give out financial info to a website and a Google search of how you donate funds just turned up a lot of bullshit ads and no real good info.

I just saw the go fund me thing on FB but the above posts info is conflicting.
It would be nice if we had more exact info before contributing.
Like a lot of others I have met Gene a number of times over the years starting with buying my wife a pair of earrings from him at Pleasanton in 1998 as that is about all I could afford then. I got to take one of his classes a few years ago and that was a great learning experience.

I'm not sure if it takes paypal. Safe to use but they do take a percentage of the donations as their fees and I am not a fan of that.

I think you have to use a card. I've donated on GoFundMe with my card for years, and have never had an issue.

If you don't like their fees, you can choose "other" when they ask for a tip and write in 0.00 for a tip.

    Gotta go find my plastic.
Never donated to these, but getting Gene back to USA is worth it to me

OK, I put in a small donation, apparently you can not use Paypal for this one and you have to input a credit or debit card but you can eliminate the fee that Go Fund Me takes so all the money goes to help Gene.

I met Gene this summer at the Iola car show and it was fun to watch him hammer weld a chop job onto an early 50's Chevy, he autographed a dashboard for me and he seemed like the nicest, most genuine guy, and still doing custom work at such an advanced age. He could still crawl in and out of the rear window hole of that Chevy and gas weld with the best of them.

I shared this on Facebook too. They're already doing pretty well, considering the timeline. Gene has a lot of friends and fans.

  16. Shit, that must have happened in the week after he had visited Austria.
    I wish him the best.

Wishing Gene the best. When I travel abroad, I always get trip insurance. It's not expensive, but medical evacuation sure is. Especially as we get up in years. A friend stepped off the curb across the sea, broke her ankle. Another friend got up in a strange hotel in Slovenia, bumped the wall she thought was elsewhere, fell and broke her shoulder. Fortunately a orthopaedic surgeon in our group could cut red tape for treatment, but it's just smart to cover your butt.

Modest donation made. Easy with credit card. Nothing to be scared of. His return is about 15% covered which is a great start, but obviously still a way to go.

I enjoyed watching him chop a 35 3w at the NRSA Hot Rod Supernationals here in the UK back in August, so happy to help out. Legend.

I feel like this could be made into a sticky at the top of the main page for all to see.

  25. Good luck and Godspeed to Mr. Winfield. A legendary custom builder and an even greater man.

I know that he was in here at the car show, but i didnt know about the accident he had. I guess only good thing in this case is that he is in good hands, our docs knows their stuff. It could have been a real mess in some other country.Well, good luck Gene!

Does anyone know if his 'WINFIELD & WATSON' show at his place in Mojave, scheduled for this Saturday (10/13) is cancelled or not?

Hahaha! They probably fixed his hip with a few sticks of lead.
