I just shared in an e-mail discussion of this photo with Gary from MN who posts here occasionally and a gentleman named Bill Devine from the Des Moine area of Iowa. Bill is an avid Model T hobbyist who also is instrumental in banger events in the Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin region. Some of you may know, or have seen Bill in action as the official starter and timer at the North Central F.A.S.T. Northwood Iowa hill climb or at the International Speedster Reunions that have been held at Speedway Motors in Lincoln. Bill actually has the original of the photo which came from the gentleman seated in the banger-powered rail job, and had some of the history from the photo.

The man pictured in the dragster is Glen Dyer, who was the go-to guy for Model T and Model A expertise in the Des Moines area. Glen raced and followed racing extensively around the Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska area through the fifties and sixties, and Bill describes the photo setting as a NHRA track and meet somewhere in Kansas.

In the early 2000's Glen and his protege Bill teamed up with Wayne Atkinson to form the North Central chapter of F.A.S.T. and to put on the initial flat hill climb in Northwood, Iowa. Wayne, who may also be known to some of you for his work on porting and airflow in banger motors, and his history at Bonneville, had relocated from Utah to Iowa and wanted to create an event for midwest banger fans. We just completed our 15th annual meet a few weeks ago and plan to continue what Glen and Bill and Wayne started for many years to come.

I remember an illustration on the cover of Popular Mechanics or one of those magazines. Was of a car awfully similar to that.
