Projects 1934 Plymouth 2 door sedan build

Don't know how much chop you're planning for later, but a serious-sneaky chop would be ~ 1 -> 1 1/2" cut. Or better, even less. Just enough to make 'em stop, look, n say "Wait, What?" .

Yes, I'm thinking 1.5-2" would be about perfect. Biggest challenge I see is the roof is wider at the top and tapers inward as you go down. Mostly at the A pillar. Would have to narrow the roof at the front slightly......which creates more challenges.

 

Started building my grille from 1/4" steel rod. It's extremely tedious and time consuming getting all these bars bent right and lined up with each other. Would be simple if they were straight, but the curved bars should look killer.

Very nice. Those grill shells are at a premium. Guess all the good ones are already on someone's restoration. Nice to see an original being saved and not using a fiberglass repop.

 

Finally finished my grille. Turned out pretty nice. And heavy.

Now I'm back to doing bodywork. Previous owners have attempted to beat out some dents......using a ball peen hammer or something. Lotta stretched metal.

I agree with you on the amount of chop . I should have listened to b-bop and do a 3” but no I did 4”and now that I’ve drove it some I’m going to lower the seats as low as I can get them . Keep up the good work .

The lid is back on, and tacked..........
I took 2" out, I'm really happy with the look. Pics don't show much difference, but it's a real improvement. Still have a bunch of fitting and welding.

Great project, you have come a long way. Most folks think the Mopar's don't really need a chop to look right. I think just the opposite and like them with a chop. Looks like you did a very good job on the chop so far, it is subtle that's for sure. I'm kinda like "verde" and I don't care for subtle, however sense this is your car you get it your way. No matter what it is going to be way beyond cool.

I also am a Mopar guy, and I am building a 392 early Hemi for my Model A so I understand completely about the expense of building one. Since you are not going Mopar for power I just have to say I love the idea of this FE ford engine in this car and I wouldn't give a crap how much anyone hollered.

Not a lot happening on this, been a busy summer so far.....
I did manage to get the doors chopped and fitted, and did some finish welding. Still more to go....

 

Yea, its hard to make progress in the summertime. Somehow life just seems to get in the way.

It's amazing how little work has gotten done on this project the last couple months!
I just haven't had much time for it. I did do some work on the door gaps to get them more uniform.
And most of the welding is done, I hope......I flipped the body up and finished all of the welding on the under side. Then epoxy primed.
