Although Paul may not be short for K.S., there's a very high percentage chance that your Hilborn was on one of the wildest and weirdest Gassers of all time—Paul Pittman's "Sassy Gremlin." Whooo-weee wouldn't that be something?

No,sorry I don't. That car ran Island Dragway for quite a few years. Someone should have a picture of it.

You could use a spare Gasser in case you break the 1st one:)

  14. Very cool stuff right here...Keep it going as it is looking good.

  15. Please, no offense but why didn't you build up the sedan? (here's where l get shot & kicked outta the HAMB:rolleyes:) I love any Willys coupe but there are coupes (steel & plastic) all over the place. I obviously realize, your car, your choice. I (just me) would think a sedan gasser (or street rod) would be a cool throw-back, ala this site. Most guys back then could only build what they could find & have the money for. I also know good steel is hard to come by nowa days, Willys or otherwise, just my 2 cents......thanks

I'm just not a sedan kind of guy, I didn't want this car to rot away and be forgotten. The guy that owned it was a hard core hoarder with his property packed full of junk! Plus resurrecting is fun!

Typical bonehead move on my part. I desperately wanted to be 100% period correct with building my 41, So without doing research, I thought that 41 sedan windshield was same as 41 coupe, NOPE!
After welding my coupe roof to my 41 sedan windshield, a good friend told me that 41 coupe has slight differences, so I spent some time today disassembling my creation and started splicing from my 40 windshield and adding to build a correct 41.
I cut out my 41 windshield, chopped 1" from my 41 sedan pillars, drilled out the spot welds and separated my pillars from my entire 40 AND 41 windshield sheetmetal, then added 98% of the 40 windshield to the 41 bottom section where it meets the cowl.

My backyard looks like a willys junk yard!

Today I got to hang out with Donnie Johansen(Howards son). He's going to help a bit on drilling holes in my chain drive housing, now I just need to find a few more chain drive parts to finish building this Hemi.

    Hey D,
Nice build on your Willys Coupe. There is always something else to do or fix. Isn't that what a build is these days? That is very cool that Donnie Johansen was/is helping you with the chain cover. The Howard Cam Twin was one of our favorites at Lions Dragstrip. We were so impressed with those twin SBC motors that we set up our 671 292 SBC motor for our Willys in C/Gas.

My brother was a Howard Cam fanatic. We had a new Howard roller cam and kit, a flywheel, adapters and since we were able to get a new Isky Gilmer belt kit at the time, did not purchase a Howard Cam chain blower kit. He was influenced with all of the hot race cars that had Howard Cam stuff.

I will build this car VERY simple and as true to that period as I can.
Tell me more about the 671 292 SBC.

I've always heard that not one Willys was built the same as another, now I know it's true. My original drivers door is 25-3/4" from belt line to bottom and my original passenger door is 26-1/4" from belt line to bottom.

Von Dutch said, "you can only see one side at a time." How do the sides look otherwise? Put tape away until you really need it! Build is looking great.
