Love the 40. Hopefully the 30/31 will be just as much fun

Been a bit slow on the build as had an operation on my knee.
Managed to strip it down a bit ready for the build.
Body off the original chassis and placed onto new chassis.
    New wheels and tyres
4” drop axle ready to install
    Brakes rebuilt

Still a huge list to attack but all the parts are being gathered.

Just looks like a hell of a lot to do at this point. Be worth it in the end though

Just found some more quality craftsmanship while blasting the body. Obviously thought it was better just to use some filler instead of steel. Same on both cowl

  13. It exists in my world too. Sometimes backed by aluminum mesh pop riveted over the holes then bashed in and filled, sanded smooth and viola, DONE! 106_0070.JPG

Only to be cut out and new steel welded in. 106_0066.JPG

Just spot welded at this point but you get the idea.

    Crap at this updating:rolleyes:

Managed to get a lot done and started measuring up for the axle narrowing.
Both cowls have been repaired and also both rear corners.
Engine temporarily fitted just to see if it fitted with the rad. Also fitted the front beam so I could set the body in the right place

Got a little bit more done.
Cut the floor out and started again. I’ve seen the video made by Eastwood as to how they did there’s and cam up with something similar.
Made the cross pieces out of 2x1” with the side pieces made out of 3mm folded so it’s 3x2”.
The cross pieces are welded to the chassis and the pieces will bolt straight through the chassis so the body is still removable.
The front angled pieces will be welded to the chassis and the front cross piece. Gives strength around the gearbox for the floor. Also put some pieces in between the cross braces for strength.

Made up some new rear subframes.
Just got to tie them into the chassis but still keep them removable.
Fuel tank will sit on the top of the chassis. Looking at an 18 gal tank

Wheels placed again for double checking the axle width measurement. Body is set at ride height

Should be a good laugh to drive hopefully

Started on some of the strengthening pieces.

Welded to the chassis, but bolted to the lower subframe piece so that it’s still removable.

Upper piece bolts into the normal position and then welded to the chassis

Got the new door hinges in from Snyders so had a go at refitting both doors.
Even with the amount of welding I’ve done to the cowl and redoing the rear end, luckily the swage lines still all line up and the doors fit well.

Got the engine back from the machinists today so just put all the stuff back together to mock for engine mounts.
Get those welded on over the weekend. Pull it all apart again and build up the motor as soon as I have the bearings.

God this seems to be taking forever. Hate waiting for parts to arrive.
Rear axle is back after being narrowed with all its brackets for coilovers and ladder bars. Panhard rod mounted. Also got the engine and gearbox mounts sorted.

Remade the rear rails again as I’d not made the axle cutout correct. Also started with a bit more work on the floor

Started on the floor and trans tunnel today. Slow job of measuring/cutting bending

A little bit more work on the trans tunnel and now started on the bulkhead.
Also modified and mounted my steering box.
It’s a land rover series 3 box. Aluminium case so will polish up nicely
