    Here is a nicely dropped V8 60 axle I just finished. ^^^^^

  4. Beautiful axle, Harv; but I have always felt the smooth curve of the 60 axle was it's best feature; dropping them seems to take most of that that away. Just sayin'.

You own a mill and a welder...... I would have welded this up and milled it back to factory fit.

Incredible work Harv! As I started to read this thread I was thinking "That's an awful lot of pages to read through." Found I couldn't stop reading and looking. Can hardly wait for more! Thank you Sir for your contributions to this hobby.

Wowza: So that is what the metal looks like after been smoothed and polished? That's not chromed or is it?

    Harv,

Would you share your process with us on how you prepare the steel so well? Looks great! Keep up the killer work

Does the polished steel hold up against rust? Do you do anything to treat it the parts?

I send them back raw, they get sent to the chromer or a coating of oil for further mock up/fitting by the owner.

  19. This post has inspired me to do my Y-Block ram horn exhaust manifolds- thank you for taking the time to post your processes and all the pics, will be happy if I come remotely close to the level of your work. Plan to have these ceramic coated [IMG]

Good for you, this what I like to see. Cleaning up cast iron is messy for sure, since they will be ceramic coated you won't have to go as far I do. Post pics when they are done... :)

  22. Thanks! Will do. Quite an enjoyable process actually. Is there anything that you coat the parts with between sessions to help with surface rust? It’s rainy season here and surface rust starts in a few hours..

Some progress on the manifolds. Find that I make a lot more work for myself using power tools from all the little gouges that they make. I probably don’t have the required finesse though!
Been removing the rough cast surfaces with a rotary sanding bit and the rest is by hand. Still a long way to go!

Graham, coming along nicely, you can't get impatient and skip grits, 80-120 1966319b4a17460e0b1714fb440aa296.jpg a88fc3b6970e5ed54172c23560e58644.jpg -180-220-280-320 etc. Yes, the hands /fingers are sometimes better than power tools...looking good.
