Projects 26 T Roadster Pick Up build Thread

The reality of it here is a part is an hour away from any parts store in the city so there is very little need for a store to carry 100 hoses on the off chance they might need it. They order it from the warehouse in the morning, where there are a 1000 hoses and it arrives by lunch. I have ordered tons of parts at my local NAPA and VERY rarely can they not get it for me within and hour or so. And 99% of the people know exactly what part they want. It's just us weirdos that want to dig around the back looking at hoses.

 

Us weirdos would love to get into the warehouse and search for hoses, but we can't

1000 hoses you say wow I’m gonna dream about that now


I have the bottom hose sorted out, it involves a molded 90 degree hose and a reducer sleeve, a beaded joining tube and a couple of extra hose clamps.
Pictures and details once everything arrives and I get to it

 

They could have 10,000 hoses but if you can't see them you don't know which ones to order.

Lol. Probably more. I had to help move the NAPA warehouse when they built the new one about 10 years ago and the number of parts they have is staggering. You wouldn't even want to try and find a hose in there it would probably take days.

If we could find a way in we could pack a cooler lunch

I ordered one of these to make the move from 1/34" to 2" using a hose bushing.

 

But once you found the right one you would have the part number, replacement in the future is easy. JW

 

True enough and even going the way I am I will still have part numbers for both the upper and lower hose so replacement will still be easy.

It's usually every bit as difficult to do things as SIMPLY as possible as it is to do them in the most complicated manner...

 

Nobody wants to have much stock laying around anymore for some reason. The last ford dealership I worked for was sold out, the new owners came in and sent 3/4 of our stock back to ford. Even parts we used every day. They said "We can have it tomorrow". That didn't help the customer broke down or me who was working flat rate.

 

Its like this, if you have 100 outlet stores and each needed to carry hose (X) that would be 100 hoses in stock just in case you wanted it. That's a lot of stock that ads up to a lot of $, so you keep 10 or so in a central warehouse that send one to whoever needs one if they have a part number. They don't care if they lose a single sale as its more of a waste of time to them. That's where as clever Hot Rodder's we make what we need out of what we can if we cant get the correct item......whatever it may be.
Next time you go shopping at the Supermarket buy one of everything and fill your cupboards just in case someone want to eat something different today, see how much that costs !! JW

 

Along with the aluminum tube I ordered, ( the only piece I couldn’t find locally) here’s the rest of the stuff for the lower hose.

Edelbrock valve covers found their way off the shelf and onto the engine.

 

This is the best detailed build I have ever seen. Partly because of the detail in the build and partly the detailed coverage in the thread. Thanks for letting us hang out through the whole thing.

 

Something pretty exciting happened over the weekend.
The body found its way onto the frame.

All of a sudden it looks like a car again.

 

Really gets the juices flowing when you see it coming together like this, doesn't it? Looking very good!

 

Now that is exciting stuff indeed. All we need now is a shot of the super craftsman with the subject. JW

Yes I know, since when are we supposed to get snow in September

With any luck it will melt as fast as it falls and we’ll get a little more good weather yet.

I’m pretty much resigned to finishing this over the winter and driving in the spring.

Holy cow!! I was roasting in 95 degree temps here in New Mexico today. You guys heat up a toddy and I'll ice down a frosty and we'll have a big toast... ...or two (and then maybe we'll try it the other way)

Either way, congratulations are in order!

So, the final piece of the lower rad hose arrived in the mail.
I ordered 3 tubes when I needed one

Why you might ask?
Because after I ordered the first one made in the USA I came across more on the same auction site that were from China and looked better.

So since they were sold in pairs I placed the order.
They were cheaper and cost less for shipping too directly from China.

I ordered them within minutes of each other and both orders arrived the same day.

US order and China order, same time for shipping

The pair from China are thicker aluminum and the hose retaining beads are closer to the tube ends so they will work better.

Somewhat disappointing that the Chinese offering was cheaper and better quality than the one made in the US.

I also ordered a pair of glass 37 Ford tail light lenses and also some new bulb sockets because after I put power to the tail lights I realized how lousy the LEDs look.

Cheap and nowhere near as nice or bright as they should be.

 

I'm not a huge fan of the LED lights on our old cars, they just don't seem to look right. Almost as out of place as a digital gauges and a bulky CD player hanging out of the dash.

Just like that we have a lower rad hose.

A piece of 2” hose for the water pump and the 2”- 1 3/4”sleeve to reduce the 2” hose to the 1 3/4” tubing.

Cut the 1 3/4” molded 90 hose to length
