Saw these Model A....although it looked like it had been in a little fire....I couldn't get over how Factory the cowl vents looked....what youse guys think ?
Look great but remember they route all of the hot air and fumes coming out through the hood louvers into the cab. Charlie Stephens
I didn't know these were a Ford option for 30-31 Model A's. I thought you were talking about the aftermarket 32 style Vent when folks would eliminate the top gas tank! Was this a Briggs or a Murry option?
@stillrunners HRP started a thread a while back on the engineer/draftsman of the Deuce Shell/Grill and I posted some Patent stuff on those very vents... It was an interesting thread and a Hamber from Downunder @Barrelnose pickup had a 1930/31 with T cowl vents very professionally installed which is a mystery in itself in the same locations. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...r-heard-of-a-man-named-joseph-galamb.1101094/ They would be welcome but depending on the way air moves around the Hotrod Charlie may have a point. I have a 29 Sport Coupe, hood and front fenderless and get plenty of mixed air through the stock windshield and side windows but there is a fair bit of still air despite those areas of entry. That's a pretty rare bird...
Those look to be transported from a '29 Dodge Brothers DA. They open towards the rear to let out heat or maybe foot odor? from the floor/toe board area. However, the ones in the DA I had didn't seem to do a darn thing air moving wise. Was a wasted effort to open them. Dave
@dwollam they were an option of some form...if you follow the link I posted there a several patents and pictures with these vents and Barrelnoses do open to the front. The patents also show versions opening both ways. You are correct that these @stillrunners took great pics of do open aft end out.
I think that the white stuff at the bottom of each vent is body filler, possibly melted, which suggests after market add on.
My post from the other thread...one of several... Another interesting discussed fact was Galamb was big on the Model T and Barrelnoses Coupe has vents in the side cowl similar to a Model T Cowl vent... Whats kinda interesting here is the the Drawing has a filing date of 1930 and another bolder date of 1933 the car in drawing is either 30 or 31 and the photo is a 29. There is a chance Galamb's design is not on the 29 but I figure it is but that is my assumption. I am very sure Ole Henry had departments were they could do all kinds of special one off requests on demand and he had the cream of the crop of who his Team could choose to perform any decision made. Problem is no ones alive to verify... Heck there's historical info and surviving examples...just a few missing links.
