I'm still working on the quarters, but it's getting closer.
    IMG_1013.JPG IMG_1014.JPG
The whole panel was sanded with 320 and a couple of low areas showed their ugly heads. I'm working those down now. There is a couple on the other side also. The area around the windows and the drip rails are sanded. I'll put some K36 on the lower quarters and re-sand them. Then I'll do the top. Hopefully no more "touch ups".

Take your time....One of my favorite views of a 40 coupe is a 3/4 view from the rear that shows off those quarters you have been working so hard to perfect. You are getting ever closer to shiny paint Joel! Yes I included the photo for what I hope is inspiration and encouragement.

Thanks, Sam, I’ll be glad if my paint comes out half as nice. Thanks for the inspiration. I like that you can see the edge of the shadow in the grass reflecting across the quarter and door in a continuous line.

I finally have the lower body ready for sealer....I think. I’ll go over it tomorrow again and seal it. IMG_1015.JPG IMG_1017.JPG IMG_1018.JPG
After I do the sides and back, I’ll take it off the stands, remask the sides and block and seal the top.

thanks Hivolt; I know this body work is boring and tedious.
At least todays pix are a different color

This is to prove I used guide coat and I actually had to sand a little more with a long block this morning.

Here it is ; the last part of sanding on the body. I re-masked the whole car and cleaned a couple of small spots where prime blew through cracks and gaps. As the surface builds up on the tape, it loosens it up. Here is how it looks now.
    IMG_1023.JPG IMG_1024.JPG
BTW that plastic mask is a 3M product and it's pretty useful. The overspray sticks to it and doesn't flake off. Use the "hand masker" device they make for it.
I'm hanging some more light fixtures; we're going for broke now.

I finally got the top blocked and the red sealer on. I removed most of the masking to better clean the car out before paint. I'll probably lightly sand the sealer, at least in spots< in case there are any bust bunnys in the sealer.

I'm going to get it outside and blow it out good while I'm cleaning the room. I might wash off in front of the firewall. Sanding crap gets everywhere.

The HAMB must have dropped my notifications of your thread Joel. You have really made some good progress since my last visit to your thread. The coupe looks great in black!

:) I really need to get some outdoor shots, Sam; it's really a dark blue. It's been raining here for more than a week, so I haven't even seen it in the sun:(. Thanks for looking in.

I had missed your thread of late somehow, glad I rediscovered it this morning. I hate body work, you are making it look easy. I have tons of respect for the owner builder! I look forward to the final product.

Thanks Billy. I just ripped off the front masking to compare the Omni to Delstar. The lower part (normally covered by the front fender) is Delstar and the rest of the cowl is Omni. It looks pretty close to me IMG_1039.JPG IMG_1040.JPG

Here it is after a couple of setbacks. I’ll get it in the sun and see how it looks. IMG_1047.JPG

It has nice gloss but it’s not smooth. I’ll be sanding some to try to reduce the “orange peel “. Here is a blowup of the deck lid; you can see it in the light reflection. IMG_1056.JPG

Looking good Joel! My coupe was painted with Omni. It's holding up well.

I have had some issues with Omni
I finally got it to flow out better; I went to slower reducer and added 50% more. Mix: 8:1:1.5
I have been sanding the body with 1500 followed with 2000 then buffed. So far, so good. I’ll be glad when this part is done.

I am not familiar with the actual paint as I hired that part done on the car but we did do the cut and buff part of the process. It's a lot of work but very rewarding as you see the smooth finish develop on each part. Keep at it Joel

I cut and buffed the passenger door. It's not perfect, but good enough for me.

The small pic is me taking a pic straight on above the door. I just thought the reflection was cool ;although it is pretty much useless.
