Yeah, that's Neal's 32 on the cover, the black 32 belonged to Ford Barn's Lloyd Tiffany. Both cars are still around....
Build & sell. I built a model a sedan and turned it into my favorite car... a '33 3W. You've gotta want it to make it happen. I've seen several cheap '32 Sedans & 5Ws recently... they're out there. 3blap.
To be honest, my ideal '32 is probably a 99% stock roadster, but since we're all sharing photos of our favorites, let me offer my contribution:
Your idea of cheap and mine are probably way different. My time and money is severely limited, that's why my car has been down over two years now. I don't have time to build what I've got, much less build one to sell. I figured out a long time ago to not fret over what I'll never have, and to enjoy what I do have.
Yeah, maybe. I paid $250 for my (rough) '29 sedan body that I found on here. When I was done with it, I had about $1400 into the body (before paint) and it only retained a few panels from the original body. I used a model A frame that I bought for $100-$150, a late open drive 3spd that may have been free (I had 2 and one was free & the other came with a flathead I bought), $250 for a a good '46-7 open banjo, I traded a '50 Ford coupe roller that I paid $600 for a running flathead with aftermarket heads... and it took me the better part of 7 years. I sold it for $16,100. The '33 project was slightly more than that. I probably had $12-$14K into it in the end and this isn't a get rich quick scheme, just a perspective to get to the next level... if that's a thing? I don't know your situation at all, but I am single with no kids so that makes it a lot easier for me. I don't make a lot of money, but I make enough to support myself and throw a few bucks at my habit! Good luck! 3blap.
Yup- - - been wanting to make the drive from Amarillo to Bastrop for the last several years, but again, life happens and again I can't make it. Sucks having to cancel reservations! I will get there! Sooner or later!
I think with so many glass and reproduction bodies the 32's have gone downhill, so many cars built that have no soul, survived nothing more than a press and some welding, or resin in a cup. Personally I have no respect for those reproduction vehicles and I know some may be offended by that but this is my reasoning. Those real bodies have a soul, a spirit to them. It survived the steel drives, saw many changes in this world, conflicts, who knows may have driven someone famous to a war hero or hell even your grandmother. You don't get that with new crap. If I wanted a new car I'd go to the stealership and buy one. To the fiberglass body owners "sorry douche, its not a duce, that's a boat"
The 32 in my mind looks the best. My first two were glass and now I have an original 3 w. You can down grade fiberglass, but not to long ago 32s were pretty rare!
guys it is ok to have your opinions, and i myself prefer a steel car but there is no reason to make someone who may not have the means, or want to restore a steel car feel bad. you gain nothing by expressing your opinion, other than making a fellow car guy feel bad, or angry. fiberglass cars and owners are not the enemy.
I think your generalizing is more than a little off course. Not all hot/street rods/whatever label you choose have anemic, stock crate engines. As to a cars "soul"; no car is built with soul, that has to be installed with the other parts. Here's the "trolling motor" in my Wescott fiberglass bodied (don't call it a kit car)roadster. Tough talk about people’s cars so maybe you can pick which of our cars are “new crap” that you have no respect for and which are real cars that have “soul”. Just a hint that 2 are crap and 2 are real and maybe some of the crap has more historical parts than the real cars. Give me your best insight “stubbsrodandcustom”
Ouch! John I want to play the game, can I play the game?! As much as I'm a metal only guy (not heavy metal, those days are behind me! ), I think there's a place for fiberglass cars. I would think that would be the ideal body for the salt flats, drag racing and maybe up on the east coast (or anywhere) where they salt the roads. Lord knows we all have seen some bastardized hot rods out of original bodied cars come out of the 70's, 80's and 90's that we all bite our tongues at when we're at some local show. 3blap.
There is a place for fiberglass cars! Enjoying the hot rod sport is what we all should agree on. People thought my glass car was real for years! Commend Brookville for there steel repros. I can't ever chop my original steel 3W. Too many are already chopped! I like a little chop, someday maybe I will chop a Brookville!
