I know which way I'm leaning today, but tomorrow may be a different story. The photo of lights on behind grill is not adjusted, just duct taped in place.
Looks like you can see in your driveway and garage, but how about on the street? I do kina' like the smoothie look of the front fenders...
If you ever are going to drive after dark, don't put them behind the grill. It blocks way too much of the light to be able to drive safely. How about mounting sunk in the fender down low on either side of the grill?
I drove it up the block and back and it didn't seem bad, but we are not short on streetlights here, it did seem a little dark the first 8-10 ft. Those photos in the dark garage are about 30 feet to that wall.
I may be the 'lone ranger", but I wouldn't hide them in the grill. Maybe some other sort of light on the fender that is smaller, less obtrusive, but not "bug eyed".
Didn't those trucks have a pretty cool stock headlight with a long tapered housing on top of the fender?
I agree. You might even want to check and see if you can legally install them behind the grill. I believe this won't fly in many states.
I'd think hidden behind the grill on that truck would be a bit too street roddy. That and the bars are going to cause some real strange light patterns at night that may cause issues. Yea they light up the back of the garage but on the dark twisty roads or on the long roads where you want to make miles going to or coming from event you want real good light.
It's your truck and if you want the headlights inside the grille do for it,but I got to ask a question, are you building a street rod or a traditional truck? HRP
Well there's nothing streetrod about this truck, Hot Rod absolutely ! The hidden lights would go with it's "Bonneville" look in my opinion and I believe the state inspection says it has to have lights, doesn't specify where they are placed. Painted steel floor, Armstrong steering, manual door guts (whenever I get around to putting windows in it) hell, there's not even door panels in the 2 yrs I've been driving it so far.
That won't be much of a court defense, especially since inspection rules DO talk about placement. There are also federal, state, and municipal regs covering vehicle equipment and operation. I'm not a New York State attorney, but I can play one on the Internet... a 1 minute Google search netted 3 obvious regs that indicate a violation of some aspect of the law-- one talks about light location and placement being unobstructed, another two refer to various aspects of refraction and "dazzle" (their term, it appear to involve odd reflections and refractions... which multiple vertical metal bars will certainly do to a beam of light). There were paragraphs upon paragraphs more on a single official government page, but I'm lazy.
I like the no lights from the side, makes it all look slippery. But I like the lights from the front because it takes some of the schnoz out of the upper grill/hood area. I'll never put the stock lights back on this, they're spaced to far apart for one thing and there's way to many modifications on this truck to keep anything stock, actually the stock lights would never fit back on anyways. ..hahaha
Best not to get any relevant info if you've already decided on a path. Just weird that you posted a thread on a board where people might share their own perspectives.
I like the head lights up high Could you do a fender mounted light In the grill is neat , but a little to streetrodish for me
I vote for lights exposed not behind the grille....that's from over 3 million miles driven at night for work over 35 years
I kinda like the original look for the lights, but that's just me. Sometimes the stylists actually get it right.
Just when I was starting to think "OMG yanks can drive some real road kill death traps on there roads" least you have some rules in place. Dosnt seem like some follow them to much though. Rather like the stock ones. Hope they went to a good home when they got ditched.
