History How about photo's of your past hot rods & customs

Ill play...I sold it over twenty years ago...came up for sale recently...I had steelies , baby moon hubcaps , big and littles..ram horn exhaust...you get the picture....wouldn't take much to bring it back...to each is own..

 

It all started with my first ever build C Cab
Then the 54 Customline
Then Andy's Instant "T"
Then my beloved Center Door "T" which I still have and has been
rebuilt three times over the 40 years I have had it
Then the 37 Coupe ...... lovely car this is, but not mine now
Then the 27 "T" Coupe, one of my best builds, and now owned by a guy who
Bought it for his first ever hot rod at the age of 75 years old, just great.
Then there is my Center Door as it is today, I love this car.
Then and now my COE this car I use more than any other vehicle that I have built.
And finally me and my beauties.

My son Matt now 33 with my 51 Merc out in the camp ground at Goodguys about 1988.
I bought the car when I was 16 sold it after blowing the flathead up, bought it back for 10 bucks a couple years later after a buddy spotted it. Stuck it out behind the barn here at my grandparents house for over 10 years until I moved back and a buddy gave me a Buick 350 engine and trans, drove it that way for a while, swapped in an Olds 350R that the same buddy gave me in a 60 something Chevy truck and drove it maybe 100K with that Olds including a road trip to Texas to take the kids back to their mom a few days after that photo was taken and my first trip to Bonneville in 88. Sold it after having it for 32 years in about 1995 to a guy who redid it rather OT and still as far as I know keeps it in a climate controlled garage.

 

Here's a few of my old toys and one of my old faithful 32 Chevy that I've owned since 1972 that was taken a few years and a few modifications ago with the mayor sitting at the wheel with my wife and daughter after she had chosen it as her favorite car at the local main street car show .

 

This one is long before I joined the hamb.



Interestingly enough I drove this truck to the theater to see American Graffiti and no one gave it a second glance when we got out and went in but when the movie was over we got to stand back and watch all the people coming out of the theater and make a bee line to check it out, after the people thinned out we made our way over to the truck then several people came back and started asking questions.

It that time there were very few old hot rods around this area and most were in our club.HRP

Gone, but with fond memories. The one I'm doing now will be MUCH better.

 

Too many to list but here's a special one I had for two months between graduating high school and leaving for college in the fall. I worked at a Standard station from 6 to 10 and one Sunday night a kid from a couple towns over came in just at close with a '34 five window with running gear from a '62 Impala; dual quad 409, 4-speed, 4.11 posi. He was leaving in the morning for boot camp and had to off the car. He wanted $300 for it. I hit the till, borrowed five bucks here and there from the hangers out, went home and robbed my stash, hit up the girlfriend for whatever she had. I think I came up with around $190 and he took it.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons were spent cruising the countryside (it had no tags) with a string of cars following along with my buddies and girlfriends. I gave rides to everyone; the open exhaust and tire spin at will in any gear and at any speed was exhilarating, especially for a 17 year old.

My favorite memory was when I spotted the old man in his first series '55 pickup pulling a flat trailer overloaded with hay bales stacked way over the top of the cab doing about 40 mph. We were dairy farmers and rented some acreage for the hay and he was on his way home. He was just starting to ascend a long stretch of road that peaked at the top just before our turnoff. I got next to him and paced for a bit then rolled into the gas. I hazed the tires past him, got back in the lane and kept my foot into it until I dropped out of sight, tire smoke the whole way.

By the time he pulled into the yard I was shut off and leaning against the passenger door. He pulls up next to me and snags about a 3 footer of chaw and says "shit, you better get rid of that thing, she's burning oil like a sumbitch".

This is the only pic I have that someone gave me from a Polaroid one afternoon. I sold it to one of my buddies for I think an even $200 week before I left for school.



Edit: This didn't miraculously appear in the middle of the night (well, kinda did). He had it for sale from the first time he got his draft notice and with no title and having to be towed everywhere everyone shied away. He was on his way home from showing it to someone else tow barring the thing when he saw lights and a bunch of guys hanging out at the gas station which is on the main drag through town. He was on the verge of giving it to his buddy. I ran into the same thing when I had to sell, everyone loved the car but no one wanted to take ownership.

Yup, 3 months after I finished it. This pic was after the rebuild.

 

Joined the HAMB in 2004. I owned this 59 at the time.

The wheels were red when I bought them, but eventually changed them to black.

I was a 14 year old kid when my uncle got out of the Navy and bought a brand new White '64 Impala SS with a 327 & 4 speed transmission, that was one nice car. HRP

 

BTW,My uncle served for 40 years in the Navy and saw action in several arenas and never got a scratch, less than 2 months later he was driving his Impala and was hit by a train, darn near killed him but when he was walking again he went out and found another '64 Impala and owned it up until he passed away, his younger brother who is several years older than me still has it but it hasn't seen daylight in 40 plus years. HRP

 

This Deuce was short lived, It had a 289/ 4 speed and a Ford 8" mustang rear, I sold it before I ever drove the car to help my mom while she was battling cancer. HRP

My full custom Henry J,that was stolden in 64 come to mind,an a few of my Studebakers,a Speedster,Golden Hawk,Daytona GT Lark-Supercharged. This pic was just before some new shiny paint{Sea Foam Green was added to one.

 

I bet the Daytona GT was a blast to drive,was it a automatic or a 4 speed? HRP

 

4 speed on the floor/ had T/T rear<Studebaker talk for possy,stock with buckets seats,run F-stock NHRA 14sec.flat in 1/4mile with street tires,only mods by me was custom hearders,Ok to have in FS,an the supercharger main plate was cut too.005 rotor clear.=5psi vs 3.
A 14sec. street car in mid 60s was a rocket. Wife hated to drive it,do too clutch was very hard to push in.{strong} But Lark body was about as aero as a brick.

 

Almost ashamed to show my first attempt at a hot rod but here it is. Never finished but the 352 cu.in. V8 ran good. Realized that finding parts would be a nightmare, switched to Ford.
