Been pushing it off by hand, yes, Danny put his hands on the trunk lid and pushed until I popped the clutch. What a real nice guy....had lunch with him today....just like one of the boys.

Danny says it takes a whole team to start the two motors, first on alcohol, then when it's warm over to nitro. He said there are 47 fuel lines per motor.

  3. Just returned from B'villle, absolutely the best it has been a a long time.

The coupe made 1 pass at 108 and just about fried #3 due to clogged injector. It will be back soon.
The tank ran 174+ mile 3 with 178+ exit, personal best so far.
Next run 155-ish, just laid over, lost compression on all four. Nothing in oil, valves all leaking like running toilet.

Keep an eye out for the final results, it looks like a shootout between 5 top cars for the Fast time trophy.

Returned yesterday, best salt in years, 2 long courses, one could be used for a short course. Plus a short course and a rookie for a total of four courses. Attendance was down, big mistake, at one time no one ran on course 1 for an hour.

My daughter worked Impound, said it was full of cars starting Saturday on that exceeded a record, They had 4 hours only to fix or make adjustments, then wait to run first at 7AM the next morning.

Saw Thompson run 457, setting the AA record, then Poteet and Main that had bad two days when they blew up their E engine, put in a B engine and ran 458 but not over the class record. This ended Thompson's chance to score the Hot Rod Magazine trophy for the meets fastest speed. Danny is retiring the car and I was told he was't going to run it again. But hold the presses Vesco then ran his Turbinator and put down a 470 mph pass before I had to leave.

There were 7 pre registered bangers, I didn't see any make a pass as our pit was off the #1 course. The only one I know set a record was Bill Lattin whose pit ajoined ours. He had Bantam 2 door with a banger overhead. I didn't run into John Neilson, did see that the Dodge Boys out of Montana had a pit but I could never make it over to see what they had.

When the final results are published I will post any banger records.

Another should have - could have - would have! Appreciate the vintage ride, wish I could make a meeting, will be out for El Mirage in Nov. don't have Nelson's date in my head, may run down to see them tomorrow, got to plan Birthday Lunch. The door is always open, good touring roads and a few banger guys and etc.

Thanks. I hope to be able to put 300-400 miles on it over the next couple of weeks. I am planning on driving it up to the hot rod hill climb in a month.

  11. My modernish pick up needs a starter so I've been commuting my coupe to work all week. It's only 4 miles but sure is a nice drive when I'm just banging along 31.jpg

Hey 4 bangers I have a question. Just got a new radiator in the car went with aluminum one. Anyway being a stock 4 banger should I still run a non-pressurized cooling system? Reason I ask is because the radiator I got came with a 16lb radiator cap on it. Thanks Joe

I ran a 13 lb cap on mine for a while. Figured it might run too hot with a lower one. Switched to a 7 lb cap and didn't see a difference in temp. It still ran 145* @ 80* ambient temp. The biggest thing I noticed with the lower pressure cap was that I wasn't blowing head gaskets as much. Went to a 3 lb cap and still didn't see a significant increase in engine temp. Broke something in the drive train shortly after. Still sitting were I parked it 4 yeas ago

Crazydaddyo. Thanks. I just saw a company that sells a pressurized radiator specifically for model a. They run a 4lb. I’ll see what happens on a test drive tomorrow.

Same here. Even run 0 pounds in my "every day" Honda, and Ford truck with 7.3 Diesel "Course it's about 365 ASL here- but have gone 2500-3000 with no problem. Model A's were meant to run anywhere with NO pressure cooling.

  26. Steve,
Hosed means just that, hosed. Kind of like kids when young, washing involves soap.
    Looks like fun to me!!

Hey Craze--First look I thought boring bar too short to go all the way thru-then I realized that it probably was that far already in the pix. Sorry for thinking that, because Jimmski told me you knew what you were doing. (and I'm not sure that I do---was just about to write something in that last sentence that for sure would be censored--and me in trouble.)
