On my Model A project I'm making my own wishbone, I have about 1 inch clearance between my exhaust and wishbone. Do you think this is enough taking in the consideration with wheel travel? Drivers side:
In situations like that, I wrap a ratchet strap around the axle and crossmember and start ratcheting it down to check. Bob
I bottomed it out use a jack and strap, it doesn't hit, but it's close. I'm going to try and angle the ball end down to give me a little more space.
????????? Most probably not (enough clearance). Just cycle the suspension/axle thru its travel, as has been noted..! Again..????? The "caster" comment above. Its gonna be what it's gonna be, whether the arm hits the exhaust pipe or not..! What the hell. Looks like a header change is in order. Mike
If you jack up the wheel as far as the jack will let you, you'll see what clearance you have. Don't forget, not only this side of the wishbone will go up, but the other side goes down.. You catching my drift here? Try that. If it doesn't touch or is just touching. You could be ok. If not, turn out your header a little ??
A. What is the length of the wishbone? B. What is the distance from the wishbone's rear pivot point to where it crosses under the exhaust? If A/B is less than about 3½ you've got a problem.
Pull the spring out and put a block between the crossmember and the axle in the center where the ubolts are approx 1 1/2” thick your answer awaits , ive got 3/4” clearance on mine but it’s back torwards the back of the bone so very little movement
On my AV8 with unspilt wish bone I have 1” inch clearance . My issue was the 59 back oil pan clearance . I’m running rev main eye leaf spring and I think I removed two odd lefts
Thanks for all of the replies! I ended up doing 2 things, 1) I put a spacer between the ball mount and the cross member which dropped that down 1/8". 2) I piecut the rear of the wishbone which aimed the ball yoke down a bit. When my suspension is fully compressed I have 3/4"-1" of clearance from my header. I feel comfortable with that...the ball actually seems to be in a better position now.
Autodave: A miss is a miss. You don't need any "extra" clearance. So as long as everything clears with the suspension fully compressed you're golden. Had I been you I'd have left it alone.
