Beautiful beginning Gentlemen!

I'd like you to meet HOOD-LUM...although one of the Lesser Hot Rod Gods, He insists on being referred to as the "Leader of the Pack".

 

Not a custom or hot rod, but from the 1950's though it's seen better days. Painted in my semi-abstract
style with palette knives.

And some playing with photos.

The scale of the complete pop up 57 Chevy and the 56 purple convertible is around 1/18 from the diner. The other sizes were measured with die cast scale models for the approximate sizes.

We have been going to Ruby’s Restaurants all over So Cal for the past 11 years on a regular basis. It is/was our granddaughter’s favorite place. She love the prizes given to kids of all ages when you sit down at the table. For her, it was a puzzle. For us older peeps, it was nostalgia with the pop out hot rods and convertibles.

They were fun, after the pieces were all neatly popped out. Recently, we have not seen any pop out hot rods or convertibles given out. What happened?

Hello... Woody’s Diner(s) in So Cal to the rescue: They are now the “go to” place with pop up old cars as a surprise or gift container.

They are no longer pop out puzzles, as these from Woody’s are fully assembled. On the bottom, the logo says authorized GM Product. How is that for corporate business? The detailing is pretty good and it was a shame that it was not flat with a chance for a pop up project?

Enlarge this image as large as you want, to whatever scale you need for your gift or display. The smaller it is, the harder it is to manage.

I kept the red 57 Chevy convertible for my projects and gave the 56 purple convertible to our middle school granddaughter to keep all of her earrings, jewelry, and other girly stuff inside. That should keep her counter fairly clean, yet still get the hot rod/custom car influence on a daily basis. Hopefully…

I could not stand it that it was already put together from the restaurant. As neat as it was, it was begging for an art project for all of us hot rodders. It is a nice restaurant added surprise as the interior opening in both could fit a cheeseburger and an order of fries…or just one or the other. The “fries” order is pretty large.

Finished full size 1/18 model, plus a custom 1/32 model a perfect size for a cookie or a diamond ring...

Once it is a digital image, you can change the color to your own liking and style before printing on photographic paper. Use regular 90+ printer paper for trial runs and photographic gloss paper for the finished runs. Luckily, I like red hot rods and cruisers.

Final note: use clean counters, clean hands, tweezers, and minimize glue usage as photographic paper is foldable, but, very sensitive to all sorts of bumps and bruises.

Cut:
1. Bottom of wheels
2. Top and bottom of steering wheel, but not 360 degrees
3. Front fenders inside to allow fold down to encircle the headlights when you push the hood and windshield to lock in place.

Fold:
1. at top fender line
2. below grille
3. top of headlights
4. bottom windshield backwards
5. windwings inward
6. trunk emblem
7. black gm bottom inline with rear bumpers
8. top of rear seatback down
9. top of dash down
10.below doors white tab (glue here and put together)

More playing with photos

 

I finally got around to finishing my painting of the Cedar Bridge in Madison County, Iowa. I'd lost my Mojo. I've driven across this bridge years ago long before it was burned down. It's a shame that people are so destructive and have so little regard for the past and of others. If it was up to me I would have sentenced the last youths to do this to be jailed in the Madison County Jail, taken out to the bridge every day and made to rebuild it themselves. Once the restoration of the bridge was complete their sentence would be over and their record expunged. I see no reason to hold a grudge.

I put it in a frame, it's 8 x 10 acrylic on canvass. Took it to the county fair and got a blue ribbon.
