But have you ever "Run" your valves LOL? In my part of the country that was the term for adjusting your solids. Like "I'm going to run my valves this afternoon"
Heat makes the heads grow, their mass is greater than the valve stems. That's WHY. An internet jerk some years back contradicted me on some Ford facts...invited himself (and his '55 Ford 272) over to challenge me in this. Needless to say, when the rocker covers came off and the gauging took place, engines were warmed up and re-gauged. The basement hacker was good to his word, and I won the 2 cases of Bud Long Necks. Should have bet him his car. Look up valve adjustment specs on VWs. (OHV, same 'design' as OHV V8s) As they give 'hot & cold' settings, note the cold are 'tighter' lash spec than hot. Hey...Ever adjust Chev rockers while running? I used to adjust Chevy 6es hot and running, (lash screw PLUS locking pal nut) Short, wide blade screwdriver, 9/16" long box wrench. Oh, and a .016" long feeler gauge. AND: DO NOT adjust them too tight! Boss Red Mayfield would open toolbox drawer and check your gauges for 'curling'. Curly feeler gauges meant tight valves! Ah, memories. (I call 'em 'mileage'.)
I just noticed the AC John. I didn't catch it before on the other public net that you shared this on.
Cool to see ya on here...454 BBC and 2.5 inch exhaust make me smile.....mine I traded for my F100.. your cars bitchin...when will it be getting new wheels? I’m sure a set of chrome reverse or old Americans are in its future
HAMB seems way different with many regulars not posting. Bad Bob, Plowboy, Gambino Customs.........or am I just not seeing their posts?
Very cool, John! As far as 'regulars' posting, I do certainly remember the era of people you mentioned. These days there are regulars, it's just different people. There are still plenty of us that have been around here for years that may not post quite as often.
Your right Grouch... I remember this place used to be packed some 10 years or so ago.... I wonder where they all went????
From what I hear a lot have gone to Instagram. I opened an account a couple years ago and fucking hated it! I closed it in a very short period of time!!
It's a nice car and needs very little........So far I got rid of the steering wheel cover and the cheese dick gauges that were mounted in front of the passenger area. Hooked up the factory stuff instead. Much cleaner!
Little stuff so far. Lost the shitty gauges and hooked up the factory stuff, remove cheesy steering whl cvr, and paint the side trim.
Nice Shit Box! Awwwww...how many times have I used that term over the years. "Hey sweet heart.....nice ----box!" They love it when your honest with'em! 6sally6
Nice ride, that brings back some memories. Back in 1963 my wife, of a few months bought the same car , same color for $600 and drove it from Tacoma Wa. to Baltimore MD. .We left Wa. on the 27 th of Dec. and arrived in Baltimore on the 2nd of January. Great car, 283, three the tree and sawdust tires on the rear, it snowed and froze down to 10- below most of the way. In the Dakotas one morning it wouldn't start so I asked for help. First thing they asked me was what weight of oil I had in it. Well being young and dumb I said 30 weight. Well when they got done laughing at me the gave me a jump with a big gas powered welder and that just barely cranked it over. That was quite a trip for 2 young ones and we will never ever forget it. Married now for 54 yrs and still counting. Just thinking about it as I type is bring tears to my eyes.
