@Dennis Lacy though you make have some ideas as well.

Trans was acting fine- non driving car as of yet- previously. Is it possible that monkeying with the clutch linkage arm on the side of the trans could move things enough to do this?

  2. There are two things to check, fist of all if the clutch is disengaged and after that it will be a matter of pulling the inspection plate/top if tranny and checking for stick engagement and shift fork issues.

Sounds worse than it is. It is actually simple tranny 101

@porknbeaner that’s kinda what I figured. Just hard to help or check when I can’t make it over there to look in person. So I figured I’d see if anyone in internet land had any ideas before it got dug into

  4. Tell me about it. I am going to try and break off a piece of time this week, uh don't tell the kid. :D

Well that would be appreciated. Im at a loss. When its in neutral the tires spin pretty freely. But when put in a gear the spin like theres a load on them. And not as long. Just to throw another question mark in there as well.

  6. For it to turn “in gear” wouldn’t the engine be turning too?

Yeah but the motor wont turn because the starter is jammed up. Thats where my confusion lays

Or the clutch is just 'barely' engaged. Enough to put a slight drag and still be able to turn the wheels. Full engagement and them wheels ain't turnin'. Course I never tore into one of those in particular, so YMMV. Hopefully it's a matter of adjustment...

That seems likely. It all seemed to work just fine until he was messing around with mocking up some clutch linkage. Seems reasonable that he got the arm twisted back hit enough that it’s letting it slip.

I’m leaning toward disengaged. It would hold in gear just fine before and the car hasn’t moved since then.

    Good thoughts and suggestions guys

If it is a open diff the wheels will turn in gear. one wheel one direction and the other wheel the other direction.

Well got the car back in gear and the starter off and the teeth are pretty chewed up on starter Im think on my first fire up the engine took off running with the starter engaged. Soooo I'm guessing I hurt the old starter

Well after losing a wheel because of stripped-out wheel studs. We decided that it's probably not a good idea to flat tow the old a bone. but man it's always interesting around here 20180826_181024.jpeg 20180826_181059.jpeg
