Just dropped off the Zipper engine to be refreshed along with two cores at Bert’s. Deadline is May first next year so I can get it in and be ready for the Speedster Reunion at Speedway. Will be driving the rare ‘29 Supercab a lot.

Hi guys checking in from New Zealand, here is a pic of my junk, manage to get it running from a pile of parts in time for my wedding last March. Now we’re getting ready for our honey moon to speedweek!

It’s a cut down phaeton plan is to add the sheet metal for the rear tub now and remove the tray to make the car a bit more social.

Question for you more experienced banger owners. Fitting new head gaskets, mine didn’t seem to seal properly what’s everyone’s preferred method.

I replaced the gasket with a composite type torqued to 45ft/lb put it through a heat cycle then torqued to 50ft/lb. had the car sitting for a month then check oil and noticed water in it

Should be a simple process I know, but it’s tripped me up.

    Cheers Craig

  15. I finally finished the work on the race car. After Sonoma's race in June the car had no brakes and the engine was rough, coughing and back firing. This last month (mostly waiting for parts) my buddy Max rewired the whole chassis; while I made modifications to the front suspension (AGAIN!), overhauled the brakes and worked on the engine. All the basic engine needed was an oil change. The ignition and the carburetors got most of the attention. We'll be ready to go at Monterey the end of the month!

Hi sorry, yes stock model A engine.

First aim is to get everything working in stock form then modify from there so I have a bench mark.

    Cheers

Helped a friend of mine with his Miller Serr head with Serr header,he had an issue with the petronix (timing scatter, first time I saw that, they usually just fail) and squaring away the fuel lines with a solenoid and remounting the fuel pump.We fired it open header and it woke the dead. Its in a stock 29 fordor with etched wind wings,AC and a luggage rack,so he decided to switch out to a cast iron header and an Aries exhaust( his wife was behind the change as well)..So I asked what he was going to do with the header and he said "You want it?" in my zeal I couldn't take it quick enough the header is dead sexy and I'm building a banger, so loud is fine with me. I go to hang it last night along with my 94...and low and behold the sucker don' t fit a stock model A. Now I have to change my avatar. On the bright side the 94 runs nice.. 20180801_193627.jpg 20180801_174111.jpg

Re torque to 55 ft-lb, following tightening sequence band see what happens. You likely will have to re-torque several times. On side note....might not be head gasket

IMG_2186.JPG IMG_2187.JPG Big Brother's Banger, 1964. It "bit" me at 12years of age (15 in photo).

But I'm here today to give thanks...Crazydaddyo, 97, V4F, Binger, Charlie...you successfully penetrated my thick scull and solved my problem. Obviously I'm in the right Joint! You led me to turn my HOT (144*) upside- down coil, right-side up...118* now, which ain't so hot which is cool!

Will be pestering you from time to time. Thx in advance!

Any pics of the cragar conversion ?
Likewise a stock A header wont fit an OHV as they are too short.Nothing a little welding wont fix though.

This is an original 1935 CRAGAR head. The Headers came from Bert’s in Denver

Also here in NZ the steering box is on the other side and in the way headers are the best solution

Scored a 32 front axle today as well as the column. Do any of you know, would the 32 box be much of an upgrade over the A box? Mine has a lot of up and down movement on the pitman arm shaft.
