Projects Almost Funny - AWB Barracuda Funny Car Build

  1. Sorry about your dog, that's tough. We lost my two favorites in the past year and a half or so. Desmo (my avatar) was almost 17 when he had to be put down. We've had our latest one for almost a year now and I still find myself having to think about what his name is... I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks his name is "Des... ummmm, Ollie!".

My condolences on the loss of your dog, it doesn't really matter how old they are, it hurts when they die. I just got around to adopting a rescue dog last week after losing both of our dogs a couple of years ago, I recommend it when you feel the time is right!

Condolences on the loss of your dog Jim. I love dogs, it's too bad they live such short lives. They bring us so much love and joy, then leave a big hole in our hearts.

I'm sure enjoying this thread though, I look forward to each and every update!

    Thanks again...

Back to work. Got a little help this morning, and set the body on the chassis. Now to finish the firewall, and the rest of the car. It'll probably be rolling later today.

    Jim,
Which Rustolium paint did you use on the chassis?

I used the gloss black spray can Rustoleum, from Walmart.

Dan painted the rest of the suspension parts today, too. I'm priming the firewall, plan to shoot the outside of it white in the morning if things go well.

I'm also working on the plan for the rest of the tinwork inside the car. I need to fetch some more aluminum.

Sure are a lot of parts that have to go back on!

Squirrel, I also am sorry for your loss, dogs man the old saying is damn right. "The outside of a dog is good for the inside of a man"

We lost two just this year, man it hurts too. I just hated the thought of starting a new one. So we went the rescue deal not knowing what to expect. This new guy is a Jack Russell terrier and I had my doubts about that breed. Right now he is curled up ON my feet as I type this, I think we did pretty damn well. Hope you replace your's in time...

Paint thought. How about a simple old skool racing stripe front to back right over your head? Nothing fancy to detract from the actual car yet a nod to the 60's. Maybe candy red or blue? Or multi colors that change from front to back in fades?

Jim, if you have any ideas for paint scheme, pm me an I'll work them up in Photoshop. The white paint will be a good start to work with. (easier to color). Eli

  22. Jim, I am sorry to learn that your dog as passed on. Like many of the other posters, I believe that our pets become family, and it takes time to adjust to the loss. We had lots of big dogs that lasted 15 or more years, and considered ourselves lucky that they lasted as long as they did.
I am 75 now, so we have decided not to get another dog, but I really miss not having one around the house.

If it's not one thing, it's something else. Our internet quit working last night, the company can't get to it until Thursday, so I'm going to see if I can fix it this morning. But I did paint the firewall.

the book is pretty good, too :)

I fixed it, just a bad cable to the antenna, I guess CAT5 cable doesn't last more than 13 years when exposed to Arizona sunshine.

  28. I'm sure Jim already weighed this idea out in his head, but Rustoleum sprays out of a gun really nice. Just add a little bit of hardener, appropriate amount of acetone in a H.F. gun, and it will dry harder and faster than the spray cans.
Grab a few qts. and pints at Wally Mart and mix your own shades, too.:)

I painted my car trailer that way...but I didn't want to get that fancy on this frame. I'm building an old race car here, guys

  30. Jim,
You amaze me! Is there anything you can’t fix? The car looks great, I can’t wait to see it done.
