Technical What did you do today?

Went to my local parts store ( took 6 days to get a GM caliper, replaced both sides and new rubber hoses) anyway, I recently bought a 38 Chev coupe that was pulling left when braking. I believe a caliper was hanging up > installed calipers and hoses and working great. > NOT a lot of fun when you are 73 and working outside in the sun on a concrete driveway. Still better than the day before when working under the car in the rain (wouldn't have been too bad under there if driveway didn't have a grade and water running under the car. OH WELL >BRAKES ARE FIXED !

 

Sounds like you need to switch to the night shift too! I've found that I can work 8 hours straight without breaking a sweat... Just need some coffee or a Red Bull and I can get some serious work done!

Another notice received from the electric co for todays usage. Dont know how you guys in Texas are doing it. Weve only had a few weeks of this heat and it seems its been a month or so for you guys without letting up. Guess I should shut up and just get through it. Got up this morning @ 4:00 so I can get my 10 hrs in before 2:00. Then its just phone answering time till 5:00. We will get the hang of it.

Fit up a rocker/step support, step and step riser into the Unibody that some one else had cut out of a donor truck. A lot of surgery has been done that isnt seen, but it seems to be working out good. Just have to weld it up. Next is floors on driver side and front cab mount. Then it will finally be on to the fun stuff!!!

 

I hated the ad on turn signal stalk in my roadster so I moved it off the column and down under the dash. Made a quick and dirty bracket for it and then hung it up under the dash. The dash is hanging by bungee cords in the pics. I think I like it better under there than where it was before. A couple pics.

 

I got the '46 GMC cap I chopped in primer. It's going to another shop for paint, I think the painter will be quite happy with what he's got to start with!

 

Me? I found out that the main bearing cap on my 354 is off an early 331 so the oil pump holes don,t line up.Thanks to 73RRs article on here sometime ago I can sort it out.

 

Going to Meltdown last week, temp gauge went high as I was waiting to get in, which was weird. My 37 has always run 210-ish, even when stuck idling in traffic for a couple of hours. Ran fine on the way home, as long as I was moving. Stop, and the temp would start to climb. Found the radiator 3/4 gallon low when I got home.

No sign of an external leak. Thinking head gasket? But the oil is clean, no milkshake.

Filled it up and took it out for lunch today. No white smoke, no smell of burning coolant. Ran 210 like always, moving or stopped. Checked when I got there, nothing under the car. Got home, and there’s a puddle. Looks like either the water pump or pump gasket, got a nice trickle coming out on the left side. So I guess I know what I’m doing next...

soldered up the water return line on my model A, we are going on a 1000+ mile camping trip, i"m making a slo cooker so i can cook while we drive. cooker on floor behind shifter, cooks from hot water from engine. WILL IT WORK ?????

 

You will have to let us know....Ive heard tell of taters and eggs in tin foil on the exhaust manifold too....

 

The theory is sound. I do know that you can heat up cans of C rations in the bleed air in a C model Huey.

 

Went to a music festival last night in th Tudor. The engine shut off . Had to borrow a bike to go get my trailer . Unloaded today and found the module in the Mallory bad . Any one know if another brand will fit ? Had bad luck with Mallory in the last few years .

 

Opened up pathways in the garage, I can see the back wall.

 

Working on a friend's unibody. Hanging a tank under bed... 57 Chevy tank. Somewhere in it's past an owner put a fuel door in the bed and hung a huge suburban tank under it. This needed a fill neck, but otherwise fit real nice. We also modified the sender with mustang guts so it would work with the Ford gauge.

I have rubber hoses, wiring, and paint left to do. It's nice to get rid of that massive tumor that was there. My friend is posing with the old tank, trophy buck style, for a size comparison.

Put the top half of a fan shroud on my 56. Bought it from a place in Texas a yr ago and really didn't like it much. Typical ready fit-one size fits all. My Y block has a 3 shive pully on the crank and their bottom will need a lot of convincing to fit and the fan either needs to move back (ain't go into happen) or the shroud needs to be thinned 1/2". A friend made one from a cookie bake pan.....I'm getting real serious about looking at that idea.
Getting read for an AC unit next yr.

Cleaned up a set of 113 heads for the Y-Block, while Max got the valves lapped in for me....

Back to floor repair tomorrow.

Cut out the rain gutters in the trunk of my model a. The side ones were previously cut by someone previously. Looked like they used their teeth and chewed them off. Top one was rusted and spent most of the day hunting and cutting out spot rusted spot welds. Was held in by 16 welds. Just random places all along the channel.
I am thoroughly convinced there is a level of hell where people are forced to find and removed rusty spot welds for eternity.

Finished the steering on my Morris Minor Gasser project.

 

Crawled under the '59 Ford yesterday, meant to get out before the heat but my hip was on fire and got out about 9. Tightened up the passenger side exhaust donut first. Added a ring of RTV around my Chevy II dipstick tube o-ring... elusive oil leak from hell. Replaced 2 boots on my outer tierod ends. The ones I got with them cracked even before I had driven the car, used some sexy Energy Suspension ones. Made a run for a pickle fork and took a few pool breaks.
