Long Beach, CA's Alamitos Bay looking East. The definite, tall palm trees of Naples Canal area to the left. On the right are the Ocean Blvd homes and in the far background, there is the Seal Beach Power Plant smoke stack that used to be at the “Ray Bay” River Jetty surf spot.

This location was very early Long Beach. It is near the famous curved corner of the handball courts at Ocean Blvd and 54th street. (close to the Bayshore and 54th corner) At low tide, the sand would bake rather hard and it was easily driven on for a quick photo shoot. The mode of dress and the Olds flipper hubcaps say late 50s early 60s. Yes, those cool pants were called “pedal pushers.”

A lot has changed since the original photo time capsule, but the driveway and dirt path still exist.

The Carson Style top throws me for a loop as they were popular in the custom convertibles. Not many were in our neck of the woods.

My friend from high school had a home several houses East of the powerboats and sailboats in the original Mercury convertible photo above. My friend had access to an old Amphicar for several outings on the smooth waters of the Alamitos Bay. This water area is also where we learned to sail in sabots and a Malibu Outrigger Catamaran, while scooting by the famous beachside corner for hoots and hollers. Hot rods/cruisers on one side and sailboats/catamarans on the waterside. How cool was that? Teenage shenanigans, again…
